I almost crashed the car 3 times over a concept that i don't understand?

ok so if your at an intersection.. and the light turns green for 2 sides .. you can either turn left or go straight.. does the person turning always have to yield to the person going straight?

i dont really understand it.. so i just follow the other persons lead.
im first in my lane and the guy on the other side is first on his. he's turning just like me. so when he turns. i start turning too. then out of no where the car behind him goes straight and honks at me.. is it my fault?

When turning LEFT at any intersection where there is a traffic light, from a two way street, onto another two way street, a driver does not have the "right of way", unless there is a "TURNING ARROW" flashing, or a Police Officer directing you in that direction.
Also, you NEVER have the "right of way", unless its given to you.
When turning left on a green light, from a two way street onto another two way street, look for -
1. Oncoming vehicles (some may pull out and around an oncoming left turning vehicle too).
2. Activity in the crosswalk of the direction you are headed.
3. The color of the traffic light.
Keep repeating this scanning method for your safety.
Also, only one vehicle may enter the intersection (front end of your vehicle just over the crosswalk) at a time.
If the traffic light turns amber, that one vehicle may then complete his/her turn after checking that there are no vehicles running through that amber light, and the crosswalk is clear. In this way at least ONE vehicle will be able to turn left at a traffic light on each green/amber light, and thus allow traffic to move along.

Yes, for the most part. Yes, you when turning left you have to yield. You can do a simultaneous turn with the other guy but that only works if the car behind him does not go around him to go straight.

Basically, you can only turn when you have a clear line of destination vision.

When in doubt, yield.

Yes. When turning left, the oncoming traffic has the right of way. You have to wait until either there are no oncoming vehicles, or the oncoming traffic is far enough from the intersection that you can safely make your turn.

Unless you have a green arrow you must yeild to traffic when turning left. The same goes for right turns in the UK.

If the cars in both directions have the green light, then the car turning ALWAYS must yeild the right of way.

That car didn't "come out of no where." It is your responsibility to watch for ANY cars coming at you from the other direction. Just because the one car can make HIS left turn does not mean it is safe for you to make yours.

Safe driving doesn't mean "following the other person's lead." It means that YOU obey the laws pertaining to your situation.

i am concerned about you driving alone if that hasn't been explained to you!

cars going straight on have right of way..

when the traffic has cleared on the other side, you may cross.

Yes it is your fault. Unless you have a green arrow you ALWAYS have to yield. Even if the car has a blinker on you cannot assume that they are turning until they psychically turn. Do you have a learner's permit or a driver's permit? If it's a learner's permit the person teaching you should have stopped you.

The person going straight always has the right of way unless the person turning has an arrow. When you have an arrow, it is called a protected turn. Although you should still look, an arrow always means you have the right of way.

Sounds like you need to be more observant of your surroundings while driving. It also concerns me that you're out driving on the roads with little understanding of how right-of-way works. I'm curious what you do at a busy 4-way stop intersection with no traffic light.
Sorry to sound harsh, but I think you should talk to a driving instructor about brushing up on your driving skills...before you DO cause an accident.

Yes, you must yield the right of way. Unless you have the little green arrow light up. Then it means that you are the privileged one who gets to go first. But if you wait too long, you will get the other people who do understand how to drive blasting their horn at you. If this seems like too much for you....call a cab.

It is your fault you have to yield and make sure nothing is coming.

If u were turning before #2 entered it's your turn to finish.
If both cars in front signal turn then both turn in front of each other, no conflict.

Yes you must yield.......
