I am TERRIFIED of yellow lights. What should I do?

Your mom is causing the fear so until you find a person who knows how to teach driving, you will never get over it. Your mom is probably not that good at driving if she can't explain how to react in that situation without physically and verbally threatening you. People need to understand why driver's ed is so good. Just because you know how to drive does not make you a good teacher so it helps to go to a person who has no attachment to you and is patient to teach you how to drive. I feel sorry for you that you are still going out to practice when your mom is just making your fear worse every time you go out. I bet that is not the only thing she yells at you about. I would just tell them you have no interest in driving any more and the only way you wil practice is with someone else.

well, you may go through a yellow light if you cannot stop safely... and if you have to SLAM your breaks really hard, then that's not a safe stop.

What you should do when you approach an intersection where you have a green light is think to yourself "i can stop, i can stop" and when you get to a point that you feel you wouldn't be able to stop without slamming your breaks, and the light is still green... just go. even if the light turns yellow. But, if it turns yellow before that point, then you should stop.

and remember, keep practicing... its the only way you'll get better.

If the light is yellow and you are driving fast enought to have to slam on the brakes, simply go through the light. You do not want to get rear ended.

In my eyes, yellow is an extension of green and therefore ignored. you are allowed to travel through yellow lights as long as you're not an insane distance from it when it turns yellow. I'll usually go through one if i even have to remotely slam on my brakes to stop at it.

If you are going too fast, YOU ARE NOT TO STOP ON YELLOW!! It is dangerous as you can get rear ended from the short stop! Unless you are 95 feet away and able to slow down once you see that yellow, do not short stop. Just speed up. Dont worry about the ticket your dad got. You should not run into issues, as long as you dont go 50 mph when you see that yellow light from far away.

You are going to have a bigger problem than running a light if someone rear-ends you.

If you are driving the speed limit, you can usually time the yellow by the solid white lines on the pavement before the intersection. If you are outside the lines, you have time to stop. If you have already entered the solid lines, just go through it. The lines are generally longer on roadways with faster speeds, and shorter on those with slower speeds. Eventually you will know roughly how long the yellow timer is on the local signals, and you won't have any problem.

one thing you must understand is that if you cross that line before the light turns red, you have the right away to go. GREEN means go RED means stop, but YELLOW means go slow because the red light is coming. so if you get there and you don't cross that line before the light turns, then you need to stop, but you have to know the danger of pumping your brakes a yellow light because 9 times outta 10 the person behind u is thinkin that they can make it through this yellow light and thinkin that you're going to take it. if you give them a surprise such as hittin da brakes, then you might get rear ended. so please get over that fear before you get on the road babes.
