I am a new UK driver and was caught up in a speed camera. Could anyone tell me what will happen next please?

It was a 30 MPH zone and I was doing 40 something. However, there were not any speed camera signs on the road.

If you dont recieve the letter within 14 working days you wont get one. The police are allowed to proceed with SERIOUS matters of the law after that period but they are unlikely to take the risk with a simple speeding fine. Gatzo cameras are always in a "supposed" high risk area where there have been many injuries or deaths cause by speed. For that reason they always put up signs. The sign can however be as much as a mile prior to the camera. If you are yet to recieve the letter then worry not. As everyone else said you dont always get one and you might be lucky. Depending on your speed they have begun to impliment a driver awareness scheme which exempts you from the points. For the price of the fine they will offer you a place on a course which wastes everyones money and time and tells you what a bad person you are for breaking the speed limit. (Ive never been on one but thats the general jist!). That course is only for people who did not exceed the speed limit by more than 9 miles per hour. If your speedo is reading wrong you might stike it lucky and recieve one of these. Either way dont let this upset you or worry you too much. I recieved one of these when I was 17 and although I got alot of hassel off my dad and I was a little worried at the time I got over it. Ive pretty much come to the conclusion that the police will never do anything for the likes of us but are perfectly happy to waste our time and money in order to meet targets. Its a horrible state of affairs to be in but welcom to the UK! Oh one last thing...I live in north wales. Here the chief of police pledged a massive crackdown on motor crime and vowed that he would personally ensure that the roads are kept safe for the people of north wales. Because of this there are now more speed cameras in this police area than anywhere else in the UK. One little fact for you though:- both he and his daughter have been caught speeding in the last 5 years. Guess what happened to them!... JACK!

If you are lucky ther will be no film in the camera otherwise if the car is registered in your name you will receive a fixed fine in the post just watch the speed limts

Sounds like a fine and 3 points to me, and new drivers banned at 6 points not 12 like experienced drivers so you better slow down!

If the camera worked then you will recieve a penalty charge notice through the post within the next couple of weeks.

It will either be a driving licence detail request so points can be put on or a fine.

More than likely you will get points on your licence.

you maybe lucky, not all camera's have film in them.but if this one does you'll get a £60 fine and three points on your licence.welcome to the world of motoring in the UK.

You'll likely receive a nasty little item in the post in the next couple of weeks; it'll almost certainly be the offer of a fixed-penalty notice, which would entail a £60-00 fine and 3 points on your licence. You could always take it to court, but I wouldn't bother, what you'd receive in court would be somewhat higher.

You need to be aware that within the first two years of passing your test the acquisition of 6 (six) points will bounce you right back to provisional status, L plates, accompanying driver and all, until you pass your test again.

a £60 fine and three points on your licence do it again and you will lose your licenceand hav to sit theory and driving test all over again

dDon;t believe there are no signs, more than likely you just didn;t see them.

If you are caught, you will get £60 fine and 3 points on your license.

Although, I have been flashed a few times and never received anything. Just becuase you are flashed, often there is no film so no fine.

steeluk2000
hi sorry it dont matter that there was not any speed camera signs there, I'd wait and see if you get a letter detailing what action might be taken against you. would think a fixed penalty fine is most likey.

You'll get a letter through the post. Allegedly if it doesn't arrive within 3 months, you're off the hook. But it doesn't always work that way. You'll get a £60 fine and maybe 3 points, at worst. Don't worry about it, but stay alert! If it's a built up area, it's best to keep the speed down because police in normal clothes will sometimes patrol them and get you when you're not expecting it. Just hope there was no film in the camera - a lot of them are dummies and don't actually work.

If there is any film in the camera then you will get a letter from the DVLA in the next two weeks and they will ask you to confirm if you were the one driving your car. If you are then you have to send both parts of your licence to the DVLA and they will put three points on it and give you a £60 fine.

Be aware that in the first two years of you getting your full licence you can only get 9 points before you loose it and have to retake your test. After two years you can get 12 points and usually don't have to retake your test.

Cameras have a 10% error margin so in a 30 zone the camera can be set off from 34mph upwards, so bare that in mind in future and don't go too fast in areas you don't know.

Let this be a warning, be safe!

you will get a £60 fine and 3 points but if it is your first speeding fine you will propberly get a chance to just pay the £60 fine and go on a speed awareness course which last 3 hours then you dont get the 3 points i went on one a few weeks ago and it was worth going to has you learn a lot more and take more notice of your speed hope this helps

you will receive a fixed penelty notice for £60

If you were caught you will get 3 points and 60 pound fine. However if anyone else is insured on your car, they could take the wrap for you if they are kind. Ask the court for a picture to prove who was driving the car.
