Non driving granny has a mobility car...grandson is a named driver...grandson uses the car on a full time basis for him and his girlfriends,and in pursuance of his regular work the car is not parked at the grans place of residence, but in the town two miles away...granny gets a visit on only rare occasions..which i think is a bluff...Is this misuse of mobility monies legitimate?....Ferdy with thanks.

There is a simple rule that applies to cars supplied by Motability and to cars that are registered as a disabled vehicle with the D.V.L.A..
The car must only be used "for and behalf of the disabled person".
In the case you mention there is a clear abuse of the Motability and car taxation rules and should be immediately reported to Motability.

The only information they will need is the accusation and registration number of the car to start an investigation.
For the non British Motability is a charity that helps the disabled to get around, its a wonderful system that sometimes gets abused |

If its registered in her name and someone else is using it then yes.
Question is, do they own the mobility vehicle or is it owned by the state?...
If its owned by the state, contact the council (if in the uk) and report them!
It's abuse of the system!
Its your money at the end of the day, it's taxes that is being stolen by the grandson! |

I would certainly complain to someone about it. Mobility vehicles are meant to be used, mainly for transporting the disabled person from place to place. As I understand, the disabled person sacrifices a part of their benefit, which goes toward the use of a car. If you know this granny and are able to speak to her, point out that she will increase her benefit if she gives up her mobility vehicle, which she seems to have no use for.. |

If you mean a Motability scheme car, it is only to be used for the benefit of (in this case) granny. Which roundly means to carry her around or to collect shopping etc. on her behalf.

Yes it is - my best friend is disabled with Spina Bifida and her mum has a mobility vehicle but there are strict regulations about it. Basically the vehicle and named driver have to be available for the disabled person 95% of the time, as the vehicle is intended for the disabled person. |
