Relax and practice driving with less traffic on the roads. If you don't feel safe making a lane change or a left hand turn don't make it until you feel secure that your not going to get hit like when there's no cars. I mean for a while I was afraid to take the freeway since I went to long without doing it, well one time i had to drive my bosses personal truck a 2000 Ford F-250 super duty on the freeway and he was in front of me driving so I couldn't screw up but he was driving a work truck I had to overcome my fear about driving the freeway and now I take it whenever I can it saves time, gas. You need to feel confident in yourself though otherwise your always going to be afraid and when your on the road your going to be a risk because your not a secure and confident driver. Good Luck

why don't you try the bus i catch the bus every day to school and its not that hard. maybe you could organise with a friend who lives close by to pick him/her up and drop him/her off so most of the trip is with him/her. the other ideas would work as well! gd luck!

You need time to learn proper driving skills and to gain confidence at the same time it's probably not a good idea to jump right in there lacking those skills. You should take professional driving lessons. Until you become more relaxed maybe a bus or carpool would work until then.

make an American friend at the univ. and see if u can hitch a ride with them and see how they do it and on the way get them to tell ya how to turn left properly and change lanes properly or get them to get a lift with u and they can help ya out step by step on they way to the univ.

or you can take a bus like the other guy said but you can still watch how they do things.

Maybe you could find someone at university who lives near you and who would be willing to let you ride with him or her? You could pay them some agreed amount every week for gasoline. If there are bulletin boards at the Student Union, you could post a note, or put an ad in the university newspaper. The only problem with this is that your class schedule might not be compatible with theirs and that would be very inconvenient for you.

I assume that where you live there are no trains or buses that will take you back and forth to the university?

If you are going to be here in the U.S. for any length of time, it would be a good idea for you to learn to drive with more confidence. Unfortunately the only way I know to gain confidence in driving in traffic, making left turns, and changing lanes....is to drive in traffic, make left turns, and change lanes! Practice makes perfect, so they say, and the more you do it the easier it gets.
