I am scared to death of driving!!!!!?

Pray and ask God to comfort you because thats what I be doing and it helps. I kinda know how to drive now, But I still need help in a few areas like turning and thats it.

the only way to conquer your fear is to drive. go out late at night or on the weekend when its not real busy.its just a panic attack IT CANT HURT YOU keep driving BE BRAVE and you will win.

go to a BIG empty parking lot. and stomp on the gas. drive fast, accelerate, steer like crazy and u'll get use to driving. you wont be hitting anyone so you can drive anyway you want. you'll get use to driving.

and also, when driving, tell ur self, that its ok to crash. you are not going to get hurt at 30 miles an hour and the worst that could happen would be a 1000 bumper replacement and you'll have insurance to cover that (not that its ok to crash. just to tell and relax your self). you can also drive with a instructor, and he/she will have a set of breaks to stop you from crashing.

In any case, a healthy fear of driving is basically good unless it so cripples you that you overreact and cause an accident.

A good rule of thumb is don't do anything that interferes with the flow of traffic unless it's absolutely necessary - if that means missing a turn and having to around the block, then so be it.

Another bit of advice I often give is "Don't trust green lights", especially at night at blind intersections where there are no cars stopped on the cross street. I've seen so many red light runners blow past red lights when the intersection is not "guarded" by already stopped vehicles. Now, as I said, don't overreact and come to a near stop at green lights, or you'll increase your chances of an accident.

That isn't good. First of all, what do you think caused you to be this way? I know if someone has been in an accident, being the driver or not, this can happen to you. I don't know how old you are but I would hate for you to end up being like my mother. When she was in her early 20's, something happened to her while she was driving. She never wanted to drive again. When my father left her she had to walk miles to work because there was no taxi service in the podunk town we lived in and she didn't want to bother anyone for a ride. She has ALWAYS been dependent on someone to drive her and she is now 74 years old.

Please get some counseling to help you get over this fear. I wish you the best.

For me, I had this kinda fear as well especially on certain situations. For example, turning into a heavy traffic area and need to do many turns to reverse out. I came to understand that my fear is due to lack of confidence. I am basically worried of what others would think of me when i drive. Everytime when i need to drive my car, I would have second thought whether I should or should not drive and my heart will be thumping. However, The thought of taking public transport.. the need to stand in trains or bus irks me so in the end i still picked up my keys and drive. The fear just went away slowly when I starts to drive. Overall I feels that our fear is most likely to be associated with you lack of confidence and not our driving skill. Lets get rid of this fear together ok? wish u all the best!!
