Whilst walking by the road with my helmet by my side, I dropped it onto the concrete. IS it still safe to wear?

Most motorcycle Safety Councils recommend replacing it but like most people you are probably not going to accept this and shell out $$$ for a new helmet, right? Examine it carefully and if it looks okay use it. Even if it's not harmed by dropping it, it is not unsafe to wear. Better to have it on your head than not. |

you should check with the manufacturere of the helmet- but it might be toast. really not worth taking the chance though.
Check and see if they can help you out. Maybe a discount on the new one. |

Simple answer, NO, a helmet is made to absorb impact, it works ONCE and deforms to absorbs the impact and protect your head, depends how important your head is and if you enjoy food through a straw.
NEVER buy a secondhand helmet as you don't know it's history.
I always felt this was overkill (excuse the pun) my dad always insisted on it and my first helmet was a Gold Seal race approved helmet, which cost more than my first bike, as I'm still walking around 20 YEARS after spending a month a coma never expected to live after hitting a barrier MY head first, it obviously worked.
Sometimes your parents do know best, I just thought that as an ex-professional racer my dad was overdoing it on the safety gear, seems not. |

If the plastic cracked, replace it. Otherwise, have it inspected by someone qualified to do so. |

I would say no.
There could be hair line cracks in the material and if you hit it again it could shatter.
If there is a fool proof way of testing it then go ahead, but I would recommend a new one if you are in any doubt |

It should be and without having to pay anyone to check it you can just go and visit your local fire department as well as your local police station and they can check it for you..... |
