that is slow, you should do the speed it says, so if you are in a 30 you should do 30, etc. It annoys me when i get stuck behind people doing 25 in a 30. |

The examiner expects you to keep up with the flow of traffic - 30 mph in a 30 mph zone and 20 mph in a 20 mph zone. This also applies when there is no other traffic around. It is considered potentially dangerous to drive slower than the speed limit (except when you have to slow down for other traffic or road junctions of course) |

If your instructor has told you that he is incorrect or maybe you have mis-understood. You must not exceed the speed limits.....ie: 30mph speed limit means do not exceed 30mph but driving approx 3mph faster would be acceptable but only for a very short distance....check speedo regularly and re-adjust your speed to 30 as soon as possible. However if driving too slow in a 30mph for no reason, ie narrow road, bends, lots of hazards, weather conditions etc....you would become a hazard to other driviers who would always try to overtake.
The same rules would apply to all speed limits, 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70. In a 20mph zone.....if speed humps are also used you do not have to do 20mph as you could damage your vehicle.....depends on the severity of the speed humps, maybe 15/16 would therefore be fast enough. Get an assessment from another instructor if needed before you sit another test, hopefully they will get you driving more positively but still safe. Good Luck. |

On my first driving test i got the exact same fail except my serious was for speeding not driving to slowly
if your in a 30 limit you should do 30, 25 is too slow and your examiner was right to fail you on that you'd be holding up other drivers and be percieved a nervous driver your instructor was wrong to tell you to drive slow
i think it's about time you found a new driving instructor |

drive to what the speed limit is. you would drive slower in residential areas, driving slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast. although I've never heard of anyone failing a test for driving to slow. remember you only pass at their discretion. good luck for next time. |

Instructor told you wrong. Don't drive with undue caution and don't hold the traffic up. Keep up, within the limits. If the limit is 30, it should be safe to do 30 in good weather. |

you had a neurotic instructor. in the driving test, always go exactly the speed limit, unless the weather is bad. then go a bit slower if you need to.
going too slow can be dangerous too since other cars will be coming up fast behind you. |

Whilst you should never exceed the speed limit, driving substantially under the speed limit (in good conditions and where traffic will allow) is regarded as "failing to make adequate progress".
In other words, you are hindering the flow of traffic on the road. This will result in failure of your driving test. |

You should drive at the maximum safe speed, taking into account other traffic, road conditions, weather and road layout - without exceeding the speed limit.
If you were driving around at 25 in a 30 limit, and there was no reason to drive slower, then you are failing to make reasonable progress along the road. This is classed as a serious fault as it can frustrate other drivers and can entice them to make overtaking manoeuvres in dangerous places, possibly leading to an accident!
Sounds like really you did well on your test - better luck next time - don't drive too slow - but remember, it is not ALWAYS safe to drive At the speed limit! |

Seems a bit harsh to fail you for that, but I have to say that cars that drive at 25/26 in a 30 mile zone do my head in. I was stuck behind one the other day for about 5 miles and it was so annoying.
Do 30mph if its a 30mph, do 20mph in a 20mph!
Good luck next time, I am sure you will pass for sure. |

My husband says mke progress when you can ie if it says 30 and it's safe to do so then do 30. You ave to do this on your test simply to prove you are capable of doing so. Good luck next time, 7 minor faults is really good. |
