I got a red light ticket while having my permit in Ohio. What will happen?

I thought the light was green, someone hit me at an intersection, and 3 witnesses told the cops it was red. The light probably was red then. I haven't went to court yet, as I HAVE to go. But, since I just turned 16 and I still have my permit what will happen? Will I not be able to get my license till I'm 18? Should I go ahead and get my license before the court date so that maybe I can keep my licnese under privileges, or do i save myself the time and money?

If you were driving with a legal guardian in the car such as a mother or father, then you will probably just face a stiff fine and poss. suspension in the future. However if you were driving by yourself and ran the light and caused an accident...well....let's just say don't plan on seeing any legal priveledges until you're 18 and possibly pack up your bags for seeing some time in D.H. or a juvenile penitentary. Ohio courts do not take underage driving accidents lightly and like to try to make an example out of people in your situation. Trust me I was in an out of Dan Street court in Akron almost monthly when I was your age. Please be safe in the future as I'm sure your family would love to see you finish high school, go to college, and become a lawyer to defend the youth of tomorrow. Good Luck |
