It depends on your insurance company. Some insurance companies will not increase your rates after one speeding ticket. If you get 2 within a certain time period, then the rates will increase.

On the other hand, some insurance companies will increase rates depending on the age of the driver.

If the rates are increased at all, it should not be less than $40 within a 6-month period.

not if you havent gone to court yet, but then you have to go to court w/ the ins. anyway....pay it for 6 mos, and hope they dont catch it then, in 6 mos,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It could go up for not having continuous coverage. Speeding will hurt more than a no insurance every time.

You could be facing a license suspension or even some jail time. It depends on where you are.

In some states, letting your insurance lapse will result in an automatic license suspension. Even if you renew it, you will still have to pay some hefty fines in order to get your license back.

So, even if you have insurance when you go to court for the ticket, be prepared for that. You did NOT have insurance when you got the ticket...and the court already knows this. They won't care that you got the insurance back.

You may be walking home from court...or walking straight to jail.

Probably - most insurance companies look at your driving record when issuing new insurance, or when renewing insurance. Whatever criteria they use to determine acceptable drivers vs higher risk drivers now becomes a factor.

Off the subject, but I feel I have to respond to "anonymous"s statement that speeding is not very dangerous.

Research done by National Safety Council, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the Department of Transportation, and the Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety has show that the single, biggest contributor to automobile fatatities is SPEED.

The higher the speed, the greater the risk that a fatality will occur. Excessive speed is that much more dangerous.

The traffic court crack down on you for no insurance will probably be more severe than the speeding ticket, but if you get your insurance renewed, and can prove that to the judge, the penalties may be lessened.

The ticket adds to points against you, which can be used by the insurance comapny to adjust your rates, within the bigger picture of how long you have been a relatively good or bad driver.

Probably not, because speeding is not a serious driving issue... until you hit something while speeding
