I got into an accident a month ago (the other person's fault) and ended up losing their insurance info. Help!!?

So I got into an accident, where it was most definitely his fault. I got his insurance info, and we parted ways. Now that he decided he doesn't have enough money to pay me cash up front, I have to go through insurance, except I misplaced the info. I called trying to get it back, but he told me legally he doesn't have to give it to me again. Is this true?

Basically, do I have to eat the cost? It's only 300 dollars, but I still don't really want to pay for it. Please help!

P.S. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Thanks for your help!!

i would ask your insurance company what they think you should do.. or maybe...try calling him one more time and record the conversation.. just say this is so n so.. remember we got into an accident a while back.. that way you have it on tape that he admits being in an accident with you and you could even try getting him to admit it was his fault, that would help! and ask him one more time for his insurance info and even if he doesnt give it to you, you have hard evidence that he was involved in an accident with you and hopefully evidence that it was his fault.. and then you can contact the police. dont make it obvious that your recording.. just pretend to be desperate for the information.. cuz in the long run.. you will be the one laughing!! good luck to you!!

Get your own insurance company to help you. If you have his name and phone number, give it to your own insurance company and they will pursue damages from the other driver or his insurance. Or you can sue the other driver in small claims court if you have his name and address or you can lookup his address by typing in his phone number in Google.

Why in the world didn't you go through his insurance company from the beginning? That's why people have insurance. Did he or you file a report with the police? You can get the information from the crash report.

But let me guess: You didn't file a police report. (Why not?)

You'll have to have your insurance agent do some investigating using the guy's name, address, and phone number.

Perhaps next time you won't be so careless.
