I got into my first car accident today and I feel horrible?
|
I was backing out of the parking lot, turning my head back to watch for cars and pedestrians. Before I know it, the front of my car hits a car that was in front of me as I was backing out, I hit the side of her back bumper. It created a dent and some scratches, but she wasn't too angry about it.
I just feel so horrible about it though and I think it's completely my fault because I was focusing on not hitting anything behind me that I neglected to check what was in front of me. What makes it worse is that I've already had my license for six months, so I should have been more vigilant than I was before. What can I do to not feel so bad about this? How did you feel after your first accident?

This is a pretty normal feeling. The good part is no one was hurt and cars can be fixed. You feel bad because you were trying to do the right thing, and ended up having an accident anyway. Don't be too hard on yourself. These things happen. Next time, just remember to look all around the car, be a bit more alert and you will be fine. As you drive more, you will get better at it. |

This sounds just like a girl's accident. Guys seem to have more expensive accidents on the road because they drive more aggressively and girls have smaller accidents in parking lots and while going slow, so that's why girls insurance is cheaper than guys.
These types of parking lot accidents happen. Don't feel bad. At least nobody was hurt and cars can be repaired. |

I say well done for not having an accident sooner :)
There are plenty of people who drive like idiots and don't deserve their licenses and your obviously not one of them.
I wouldn't worry about it, i drive a bike, and had a few accidents over a space of a month a while back, I've certainly learnt a few things from them!
But every time I have an accident I fall off, soo embarrassing, and makes me feel so guilty.
The feeling soon passes, when you realise no one was hurt or angry about the situation.
Just try not to hinder on it too much, it really should be something to laugh about, it was nothing dangerous or extreme just a silly little mistake, and something that sounds quite hard to do from the way you;ve described it!! |

As stated above be thankful that you are okay but the most important thing is that you need to get on with your life and driving as well because many people that keep worrying about this can cause more problems with their health......... |
