Not practically - you need sensors, a processor and custom fitted bags to do it safely. You would spend a lot of money and not be sure it would work when needed. You would be much better to spend a lot less money on 4 point or 5 point racing style seat belts. |

It's not physically possible.
1976 is an antique now. Worth more the way it is.
Why would you do airbags? Power brakes and steering are much easier conversions.
By the way, Ford and Mercury are different lines, even though both are made by FoMoCo. The two different names are never used together. Just like GM makes Cadillacs and Corvettes, not the same. |

If you own a car that old, you want to keep it as original as possible, in the rare case (of a mercury comet) that it is considered a classic (since it's more than 27 years old).
It's not like it's going to make it any safer anyway. |

Theroetically you could, but for them to be at all effective it would cost you many many thousands of dollars. The reason being is that there are several sensors spaced around the car, that suggest to the computer when to trigger the air bags. The sensor locations are choosen based on the crashing characteristics of the cars structure - data which was not taken on a car that old. And the computers interpretation of the sensor data is also based on that car structure knowledge. Automakers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars developing the air bag system for each car style/model. |

no you can not put airbags in that cause there is no room for them .but you can buy a after power steering system for it and a power breaks if i am not mistaken. also what size motor does it have |
