Find answers to your legal question.

I have a car with a pretty bad gas leak in it should it still be okay to drive it?

I have an 89 firebird and just recently I started to smell gas... I checked but there was no obvious leak... today I checked and it is leaking almost a continuous drip underneath by the gas tank. Should it still be somewhat safe to drive until I get it repaired... and no I dont smoke so I dont have to worry about that!

No you are considered highly flammable. If you drive the car there is a good possibility that you could catch on fire. Be smart... don't drive it till you get it fixed

no you need to get it fix right away. The same thing happen to my neighbor and his car started on fire

If you smoke then definitly not. Have it towed and repaired.

ConcernedCitizen
I'd get it fixed ASAP. You don't have to be a smoker to have reasons to worry about it. A smoker in the car in front of you could throw a cigarette out the window or a piece of metal debris in the road could spark. It doesn't take much to ignite gas fumes.

girl_zone_6
NO, what if something ignited it? Do you want to get killed, by something you could have prevented? I dont think so! Go have someone check it out, just to be safe!

Better to be safe than sorry....get it fixed...you may not smoke, but other people do....with the price of gas, it's quite a waste to let it keep leaking....not to mention the harm the gas does to the environment....good luck

Violet
No I don't think you should drive it, if anything sparks.....Not good...

You should get it fixed immediately - yes, it is a safety issue. You may not smoke, but someone else might flip a burning cigarette where it could roll under your car while it's parked. Besides which, your catalytic converter is hot enough to ignite paper OR gas. Please, drive straight to the repair shop! It'll cost you a lot less to fix it than it would to replace the car - or to stay in the burn unit for several months.

Repeat after me:

"A gas tank is a bomb".

"A leak is a fuse".

Now, get it fixed before someone lights that fuse, and blows you and anyone else you have with you, into the next life.

Please, I am deathly serious. This could kill you and your family. Immediate repair is required.

You might not smoke, but loads of people still do. No, it is NOT safe to drive. Nor is is safe to even park it. Actually it's probably more dangerous to park it than drive it since fuel will pool underneath it.

8 oz of gasoline has the explosive power of 16 sticks of dynamite! You need to get it fixed IMMEDIATELY! If you don't, you may go BOOM!

ktray1275
no, It doesent matter if you smoke engine heat can cause it to ignite if the fuel air mix is right, it doesnt take much

If you're feeling suicidal and living someplace like Iraq it might not be a bad idea, just think, you could even take out some innocent bystanders while you're at it..... On the other hand, there is an old temporary remedy for leaking gas tanks. If you can find the actual leak, you can plug it using a bar of ordinary bathroom soap. It will last for a many miles if you plug it well and you could go and get it repaired.

Do not drive it like that. You can have that fixed by a welder. They can eweld the tank as long as it is full of gas.
On the other hand, you keep driving that car like that, your subject to be the next cooked meal Fried Anglo Saxon Medium Rare...lol
