I work in the motor trade & I see old cars like this all the time..
So you dont need to worry about it being legal.. |
|

Why ask me?
|
if this is the way it was made yes it is legal. If you were to buy a car that has no seat belts at all let's say like a Model T from the 20s it would be legal to drive even if there was a seat belt law. |

yep........buy an old pre-1965 car and you don't have to have the silly things in the front either |
|

|
Yes it is legal. That is the way the car was built and it is grandfathered under a different law. |

back seat belts only became compulsory in the late 70's I believe.I used to go in my friends car as a child and it was an Morris minor (tourer) and that had no seat belts in at all - yet it was still legal! |

Quite legal,,if it was never fitted with them then you do not needthem,,,I used to own a 1956 MK 1b Landrover that didn`t have front seat belts,,but no problem there either,,it is all down to the age and the design |

i'm not sure where your live but in NY you don't need to wear a belt in the back. An it's probably legal because it falls under a grandfather law (the car was made before the law) |

|
It is legal with no belts in the back |

If you own a car that was not fitted with seatbelts when manufactured then you have no legal reason to fit them unless you want them. |
|

Stu......
 |
Yes it is legal as the vehicle was built before the seat belt rule/s came into force in the 80's |

this is a classic car and does not come under the regulations as such it also may not have to be taxed - my daughter had one and because of its age did not |

It is a classic car, it is legal. |

Yes, it is legal. Cars in the seventies often didn't have seatbelts in the rear; and in the front only lapbelts. |

Seatbelts only became required in 1972.Some automakers installed them as a way to increase safety,Ford was installing them as early as 1968.Most seatbelt laws didn't get passed until the late 80's.They were looking for the fastest way to reduce highway deaths around the time the interstates were built in the 1960's and that was the easiest solution. If it had no belts,it is "Grandfathered" or allowed to run without them.A dealer can retro fit them and I highly reccommend that, as your cars frame is the best safety device of all,it acts as a rollcage in a crash. It doesn't work as well if you fly through the windshield, where the car can roll over you.Human bodies are very fragile,if jet fighter pilots can wear one so can you. There should be bolt holes already in place for the belts,on the floor. Some imports only did the front seats.Look under the back seat, sometimes they drop out of sight. |

congrats on the car,it was made before the rear seatbelt law as such perfectly legal. |

Yeah, it's legal, but only two people can ride in your car, and if you want more, then have the car fitted for seatbelts. |

due to the age of the vehicle it possible that it is not a legal requirement, but common sense must prevail here , Get them fitted they can, and have saved many injuries, and lives. good luck. |

Legal yes. Wise no. If there are mounting points then I would fit belts. If there aren't then drive very carefully. |

If it has passed MOT then it's legal, however, if you are going to be carrying people, get them fitted. |

Yes at that time it may not have been law; But now you have to have them so...Go to your local wrecking yard and pay the cheapest price for some and have them installed. |

As long as everyone in the car is wearing a seat belt you are fine, if your car only has two seat belts then only two people can ride in your car. |
