I have a pickup truck with a topper. What is the best way to adjust the right side mirror?
Find answers to your legal question.

I have a pickup truck with a topper. What is the best way to adjust the right side mirror?

I recently inherited a 1994 Ford Ranger, extended cab with a topper affixed to the bed.

This is basically it, though the topper in this picture even has better/newer windows than mine.

The topper makes for very poor visibility, and I am a rather new driver as it is so I feel doubly challenged when it comes backing up and whatnot, and I especially am nervous when trying to change into the right lane in traffic.

I cannot figure out for the life of me how to configure the right side mirror to best see my blind spot. It seems like all of the advice my friends and family have given me hasn't been very helpful, because cars are still always coming out of nowhere in traffic and backing up out of my parking spot is terrifying.

Any tips on how to configure the right side mirror from experienced truck drivers out there?

Pick up a small fish eye mirror and affix it to the outside corner of the passenger mirror …that will cover any blind spots; have a friend hold the fish eye in upper or lower outside corner to
Adjust your right side mirror so you can slightly see the side of the truck.

Just go to any auto parts store and buy yourself a spot mirror and this will cure your problems.....

by hand and til you can see what you want to see really right side i like to see what is about one car away drivers side i like to see closer everyone wil be differant is why they adjust... you should have to move or lean to see out so while siting like in a parking lot adjust to where you can see front of other car its something you have to work out and know you cant see it all and they make little mirror that glue on that help iid get one for each side can get any where

You want the right side mirror adjusted so that you just catch the very edge of the truck bed in the mirror. A convex or spot mirror is the only way you will be able to see in your blind spot. I suggest a separate spot mirror of at least 3" in diameter that will mount just under the regular mirror. The little stick on ones are hard to see in, but they are better than none.

My big truck has 5 spot mirrors on it and I still have a couple of blind spots I can't see.

Turn the mirror out as far as it take to see down the side of the truck in the very edge of the visual field. Tilt it up to see a good distance behind you. Most important trick to driving with limited vision is to keep your eyes moving and watch through the mirrors and straight a ahead on a routine basis. As you pass a vehicle, watch in your mirror to be sure nothing else creeps into your blind spot. Watch what is coming off ramps. Backing out is tricky, again watch for people getting in vehicles as you do and where. Keep eyes moving from out the windows to the mirrors scanning before you start and again as you are backing out.
