seems like the best way would be to get enough actual experience that the phobia goes away.

perhaps you could hit the roads at "off hours"...early in the morning on weekends...and practice without roads full of semi-attentive drivers going 80 while talking on their cell phones and eating. that way you'll feel more comfortable when facing the masses at rush hour.

Move to Texas.. everything is so spread out that you will HAVE to drive!!! hahahahahahaaa! and you will like it much better than walking... or riding your bicycle (unless you are Lance Armstrong).

After a bad accident, I had a fear of driving too. I got over it by forcing myself to just drive as often as possible. It wasn't easy at first, but I no longer am afraid at all.

I think your phobia is probably caused by a lack of experience behind the wheel. Driving in heavy traffic can be intimidating for the inexperienced, so why don't put in time driving on roads that aren't so heavily traveled. Every town and city has main traffic highways, but they also have roads that run nearly parallel to the main ones. Drive on the side roads as much as possible, until you build up the confidence to get into the traffic.

No matter how much you practice, there is no substitute for driving in real traffic and in the different weather conditions. Drive as much as you can ... you should be able to relax a bit, in time ... good luck!

get one of your friend whom you trust his driving and drive with him....

Go to Naples, Italy, and drive there for 2 -3 days. It'll either break you or make you.

Drive as much as you can, you'll get over it!

What is the phobia specifically about? Fear of some sort? I once had a truck driver explain to me as I was changing the tire on a split rim wheel... "Respect the wheel do not fear it". If I fear it it will harm me but if I respect it I will take the necessary steps to insure that it is done correctly whereas if I fear it I will overlook the safety precautions and not do what is correct to insure the wheel does not harm me. Driving a vehicle requires respect. Respect for the realities involved means being aware and doing the correct things whereas fear will overlook and more than likely bring on the very thing feared. If you fear that someone will run into your vehicle you will unconsciously put your vehicle in a position to be run into. If you fear someone will be run over by your vehicle you may do such a thing as overlook a crosswalk or bicycle or child on the street. If you respect that such a thing can happen then you know and will stay aware so as to avoid such a situation.

only way to get over it is to get out there and face your fear. You may realize how much fun driving can be.
