I have battery acid in my back seat. Can I make the seat safe again?
Find answers to your legal question.

I have battery acid in my back seat. Can I make the seat safe again?

The acid ate through the leather and burned the foam. If I put baking soda on it, will it be safe to cover and sit on again? Should I use dry baking soda or a water solution to soak into the foam? Will the acid continue to go into the seat the longer I wait to treat it?

If you can detach the back seat, best if you will wash the whole leather seat including the foam and have it dry in the sun. Or you may wash it with shampoo and have it cleaned dry with a dryer. Battery acids are so strong that even the fumes it emits can be hazardous to your health and to your clothing. See if you can isolate the back seat to be sure that its already safe.

I have no idea, but I would totally not touch that at all. Try and get in touch with the battery manufacturer or call a poison control centre - there should be a number in your local Yellowpages. I don't think it's very safe to mix it with anything, really... and just 'leaving' it in your seat isn't an option either. You might have to have the seat replaced - I'm not sure... but a good place to start is the PCS, or the manufacturer of the battery.

Good Luck

Mix about 4 tablespoons of baking soda with about a cup of water. Scrub the seat with a toothbrush. Get the solution on the seat good, then let it dry for a day or so, then you can reupholster with no problems.

Bicarbonate of soda is the best antidote, but it should have been applied immediately. If you want to repair the seat it would be best to take it out of the car and treat it with plenty of bicarb, then hose it well with fresh water.
Make sure you wear thick rubber gloves while doing it.

Getting to 3rd Base in the seat will do the trick.

Clean it with soda water

I would google chemical spills acid is one of these and it might tell you how to treat it but i would think it would keep eating it out and mixing water with it will make it worse it won't dilute the acid it will enhance it's effect.

Use wet baking soda to neutralizes the sulfuric acid and let it completely dry///////////////////////
