I have read that 90mph on a 70mph m/way wud be £60 and 3 points. where is this info from???

This would be my first offence and since i have not been driving the minimum 2 years i will loose my licence if i get 6 points!
Additional Details
This was on a fairly quiet stretch of motorway and i DO NOT normally break the speed limit! Of course i am concerned bout speeding but the point of this Q is to find out if anyone can give me an idea of how many points to expect. Pointing the obvious out that i should not have been speeding is not really very helpful. I am normally a VERY careful driver.

Aron S is right.

If you were followed by a police car (unmarked or otherwise) and pulled over there would be a chance that they would be lenient and only give you 3 points. But that is down to the officer's discretion.

If it was a speed camera you are more likely to get 6 points.
It's unfortunate that you have only been driving for 2 years because that will cost you your license.

In response to UCANTCME's comment on speed awareness courses, these are only given if the driver is within a margin specified by the local police force.
This can vary from 3 to 5 mph over the speed limit, and is normally only offered for speeding offences in built up areas.
You can only go on one of these courses once every 3 years.

At 20mph over the speed limit you are highly unlikely to be offered a speed awareness course.

On a more positive note, as speedometers on standard production vehicles have a certain level of tolerance, you will not actually have been travelling at 90mph. You are more likely to have been travelling at under 90mph, possibly even below 85mph.
Police speedometers however are calibrated so they are accurate at high speeds too, so don't try and use that as an excuse for getting out of a speeding ticket with a police car following you, it won't work!

One Happy Egg
No it's 6 points straight away now. If you've been driving less than 2 years you'll have to say bye to your license.

Look in the back of the Highway Code, it gives a list of offences and maximum punishments.

Look in the Section of the Highway Code reference speed LIMITs too, LIMIT means LIMIT!

go to www.lawontheweb.co.uk they may have some answers to questions you have I do know that each constabulary deal with offences differently and also if it goes to court each judge treats things different too, whatever happens please learn from it!

3-6 points on licence fine upto £2500,
so yes you could lose you're licence.
learn from this mistake

------------------
Think about driving a bit more slowly instead of how many points you are going to get ,if someone makes a mistake in front of you doing 90 you have reduced your option for getting out of danger by travelling so fast.

The driver will then get either a Fixed Penalty Notice (Conditional Offer of Fixe penalty) or a Summons.

Less serious speeding offenses are normally dealt with by way of fixed penalty, more serious by way of summons. If you admit the offense under a fixed penalty notice, you will have to pay £60 and get 3 points on your license.

If you do not admit the offense, it will go to court.

Occasionally you may be offered a "speed awareness course" as an alternative.

If you receive a summons you must plead either guilty or not guilty.

If you plead guilty it may be worth attending court to plead for leniency.

90 mph in 70mph zone? You deserve to loose your licence.
