the car seats remains in the backseat or is it only strongly suggested? I know the middle of the back seat is the safest but because I am having to drive alone I am considering putting the car seat in the front seat because I have a hard time driving when he cries, so I'd like to be able to comfort him (passie, toys, patting him) so that I can make this trip without driving nervously with him crying. Additional Details so for all of you that think im being irresponsible by considering to put him in the front seat, you really must be morons. I clearly said that I cant drive nervously with him crying the whole time, and I dont look at him when Im reaching my hand into the back seat to find his passie and pat him. putting him in the front seat would make it easier for me to drive, thus a safer trip. I said i already know where the safest spot in the car is, the middle of the back seat. i wanted to know if it was state law or not. not to hear your opinions on how irresponsible i am for considering it, flippin idiots. those of you that just stated the law, thanks.

I live in Texas and the car seat must be in the back seat of all cars and the middle is the safest place for the child because you can also keep a quick eye on them if needed. |

ok lets listen to yourself, i want him in the front seat cause it is easier to comfort him, even though i already know that the back seat is safer.so by comforting him you are taking your attention away from the highway putting him in more danger and other people on the road. the easy way is not always the best. |

I believe it's the law in most states that kids must be in the back seat.
Aside from that, putting the child in the front seat is very dangerous. If you wreck, the air bag will kill her. Plus, having an infant in the front seat is very distracting ~ you do not need to be patting her, handing her a binkie etc. while driving at high speeds.
So, I travelled some 1800 miles with a 5 month old once. My experience was that infants, once fed, will fall asleep in their carriers and will stay asleep for most the trip. As long as you pull over every 3 hours for a diaper change and a feeding, you should be fine. |

I have no idea what the law in Texas is but depending on the vehicle you own, the airbags may cause the front seat to be very unsafe for a two month old. If your car is newer and has airbag sensors in the seat you may be safe. Long trips are especially difficult to deal with because without being able to monitor the baby, SIDS can occur when their head leans forward and cuts off the airway. It is best to be able to see them so I would check to see if the passenger airbag is able to be disabled. |

If you're worried about the airbag, you could always remove the airbag fuse from your fuse panel. I know that may sound irresponsible, but come on, those things will kill your baby. |
