I did a two year contract from Bensonhurst the traffic and dealing with alternate side parking was a hassle.
Honestly if you don't have to go into the expense of License, insurance, periodic tickets (parking) or break ins to steal change and what not, why bother.
I have a cousin who went many years just using rentals for necessary trips.
Both cars My FWD Ford had push on demand button for AWD I used it in Mid state only, and my Ford Ranger RWD sat idle in Traffic so much my gas mileage was average of 10mpg.
I had to factor the cost into contracts, so I kept track of this.
When I parked them I realized I was paying that Money out for a curb side ticket holder.
Oh yea there was the time I blocked the Box in Manhattan. I had My front end in the crosswalk, $75 for that gem.
I am not trying to badmouth the city I still Love it. Those were just my first thoughts when I saw the question.
I hope you are able to grab some consideration to all aspects of a vehicle in a city that has excelent public transport.
