I took a defensive drivers class today and it was excellent!! People that drive have you ever taken a class??

I take one every three years not only do you get 10% off your car insurance you learn how to be a safe driver for yourself and the others on the road...Plus you learn about the new laws and regulations like pulling up in front of a bus stop I learned today in NY City no tolerance you will be fined......new drinking and driving regulations too :))

Yep, took defensive driving as part of my class to get my CDL to become a truck driver. The safety department for my company tries to remind us about keeping our distance, driving for conditions, getting out & looking (goal) before backing, etc. If we don't have an accident for a yr, we qualify for a safety award & the rewards get better for every yr that a driver goes accident free.

It should be mandatory every time a driver has to renew their license to take a defensive driving course. It could cut down on the accidents, especially in the larger cities.

They ought to be compulsory every three years, with a test. And an advanced driver course (great fun!) should be necessary for a driving licence, and repeated every ten years. Most people treat cars as though they're billy carts, toys, or a personal means of expression (usually psychotic). They're killing machines and too many drivers survive, or avoid committing murder, only through chance or the forbearance of better drivers. I used to work on road safety etc in State and national motoring organisations.

I took one too. It will save you a lot of trouble. The smith system shows up all the time in trucking.

I teach them in Arizona and it is amazing the things that people don't know about the law and about safe driving. A class should be mandatory and should be required regularly.

Driving is a life skill. Most people drive more than they ever pilot a boat, shoot a gun, and yet there are mandatory Hunter Safety courses, Boat courses, etc.
Basis driving courses teach you basic skills. Drivers really need to learn about the limitations of their vehicle. Despite all the bells and whistles and optional equipment they might have onboard their vehicles, it's the "nut" behind the wheel which does most of the control.
