I want to report a bad driver, where do I start?

After the fact now would be a moot point on that driver. But the next time it occurs, call 911 and report the driver. Provide as much information as possible about the vehicle.

What dispatch will do is send out a broadcast about the car & unless an officer sees the vehicle operating in an erratic or reckless manner, nothing will usually happen after you call it in. So unless it is a recurring problem with the same car, this will be as far as it goes most of the time.

If you are almost hit or the driver deliberately trys to spook your horse, or experiences road rage towards you and/or horse, you may ask dispatch to have an officer contact you so you can file a complaint then. With a complaint on file, the officer should contact the owner of the vehicle & see what's going on, then go from there. Granted if you are out riding alone, it's going to be your word against the person(s) the police talk to & all they need to so is deny ever being there.

And no it doesn't waste our time & we do not ignore these calls. Once the broadcast is put out by dispatch, there have been many times that officers have caught an impaired driver based solely on a complaint call by another motorist.

Try calling your police station, but it depends where you live and what type of cops you have. Some states respond if you report the plate number at the time of the incident. My neighbor down south has reported several 18-wheelers driving poorly. In NY, I was tailgated and then the guy sped in front of me and then jammed on his brakes. He did this for 5 miles and when I called the police while he was doing it, they said it was only one complaint against one driver and I had no proof.

Best bet is to report it as soon as the incident happens. If you have a cell phone when you are mounted dial 911 as soon someone endangers you or your horse and tell the police, If this happened some time ago call the local police non emergency number and give them the info you have. They will investigate and probably warn the driver, not much else they can do at this point.

Hey nut job hows about you get the darn horse off the road. "She's good in traffic" What would cause you to take a horse out in traffic in the first place.

This Isn't the wild west get you a more modern form of transportation before complaining next time. You're not gonna get any respect on the roadways moving about in horse and buggy.

Edit to steve your retarded; Riding a horse doesn't give someone the right of way. but you can prove me wrong by saddling up and riding across 4 lanes of interstate.

Unfortunately, in this case, it's your word against the bad driver's. Unless the bad drive admits to reckless driving, then no authority will be able to give them a warning.

Call the police. They love wasting their time listening to someone complaining about a bad driver. Of course they can't do anything because you have no evidence, but they will listen politely and attempt to humor you.

Or you could just forget it and move on with your life unless it is irrevocably destroyed by a bad driver.
