You can go 10% over the limit, so 33mph would be the fastest you could go and get away with it. |

well yes coz by your own words you was speeding.
they normally let you off if its just a few MPH over but they might not.
any way you was speeding so its your own fault |

There's a 10% margin of error on the machine. So 33mph on a 30mph road you should get away with but if you were doing 34mph then i think the camera got ya! |

you are caught! yes you could get a ticket .don't speed! |

I'll guarantee that you could not possibly estimate the speed (with anything like good enough accuracy) of the car approaching you when you're in a moving vehicle. If you tried it in court then you'd be defeated very quickly. But that's another argument and not for here.
Traffic approaching the camera on the other side will not be what set it off. They are able to distinguish the direction of traffic. So, sorry - it was you.
The tolerance that fixed cameras allow is normally 10%+2mph, but your own speedo may also be adrift. If you take that into account then your actual speed may be outside of the tolerance allowed.
Wait a couple of weeks and see if you get a letter. |

Was the camera in front of you, if so then it was probably set up for the other side of the road. |

Its possible. They may only go after the big offenders to avoid the screaming. Don't sweat it. |

Well if the LIMIT is 30 - why were you doing 34? |
|

Tiggy want's a bit.....
 |
well this depends on your speedo reading right in the first place..could be +3to -3 mph as size of wheels ect can affect everything....if you was going 33 mph in a 30 zone you would not be done due to that fact....if you are not sure on the speedo reading of your car get it looked at or stay at 27mph....and stuff the people behind you...less speed less fines.... |

30 mph
i thought you knew how to drive/read |

my neibour got a ticket for 33 in a 30 however it realy depends on where in the country you were flashed some police dept have a higher tolerance

Bear in mind that your speedo could be out by 5 % or more. I had a similar experience in Oxfordshire and they sent me on some police speed awareness course as an alternative to points - so you could be lucky. |

I see there is the usual misunderstanding on here about an "allowance".
Some police forces use the ACPO recommendations of 10% + 2mph, some don't. There is no official "allowance". I can assure you that in N. Wales, for instance, there is NO leeway - you speed, you get done, simple as that
If the camera flashed at the back of your car, it's quite possible that you will receive a nasty little surprise in the post in a week or two. On the other hand you may be lucky and it may have been set just to flash in the event of a minor transgression and not take a photo. You'll just have to wait and see what transpires.
In the meantime, the only way to be "safe" from being caught is, rather obviously, stick to the limit or below. |

The maximum speed you can travel on a 30mph road is, erm, 30mph! |

well speaking from experience yes you will get a speeding fine, if it is your first offence you may get the chance to go on a speed awareness course for about £85.00 then you will be on a list for three years. i will guarantee you will get a ticket. the cameras are set at different speeds depending on the dangerous road situation. 30mph are set 31mph 40 are set at 42 mph 50 are set at 53 mph 60 are set at 66mph 70 mph are set at 77 m.p.h.++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |

Sorry mate but it says 30mph for a reason. Some areas have zero tolerance |

Depends on how accurate your speedo is. If you got double flashed then expect a ticket. If a single flash you may be OK. |

I got done for doing 33mph on a 30mph road. I got busted 3 points on my licence and a fine of £60. Some counties allow you to take part in a driving course you still pay the fine (they say in goes towards paying for the course !!) but you do not get 3 points. Warwickshire was not one of those counties. I waited over a month before recieving the letter through the post. |

A lot of the are set up to flash at little over 30mph, but here's the rub, they don't have any film in them, it's to scare you into slowing down.
Obviously you shouldn't be speeding as this is an offense and also be aware that some of the cameras are set up to make lots and lots of money, which they do, its just a case of being aware and sensible about when to kerb your speed.
Merry Xmas and try not to spend all Xmas watching the letterbox. |

yes it can, the local councils set the limit and it can be only 2 mph above the shown limit, most are set 3 to 4 mph above but some councils are greedy, the police dont have anything to do with the cameras except to inforce and point the cams at you, hope this helps. |

Probabably not. Get a GPS and compare your speedo to GPS speed. I've done this and the GPS are almost completely in agreement (I own 3 GPS). And the cars are usually about 10% too high.
So let's assume your car speedo is doing about 31 when it reads 34. So would then give you a ticket for going ONE miles per hour too high? NOT!

you should get away with it they normally give u 10% which would be 33 |

I was once told by a copper that to actually be caught speeding, they use the formula of 10% +2.
So Anything over 35 in a 30 zone would warrant a speeding fine. |

its just to scare you i passed one on a highway in md. at 105 mph just to see if it went that high.probably not the smartest move but curiousity killed me. i never got a ticket either |

Steve said he waited a month before he got a letter informing him of the offence. If this is true then he was in his rights to return it and refuse to pay. The letter detailing the offense has to arrive within 14 days of the offense. So save the envelope with the date and return it stating the fact of its' late arrival. |
