Ignore the do-gooders here. It must be hard to be so perfect and self-riteous like them. I hope they don't drive in my area as they clearly spend more time looking at their speed clocks than the road.
The first thing to do is wait and see if you get a ticket - sometimes the Gatso's run out of film and then just carry on flashing but can't picture you. If you really want to be sure, travel back to the site and look in to the camera box openings. The bottom one will have what looks like a torch reflector in it - this is the flash. It's the top hole that is the real giveaway. If you can see nothing but darkness, there is no camera in it. If you can see a camera lense, then it's loaded. But it then may have run out of film. IF you get a ticket, then don't sign anything until you have got legal advice. There is a lawyer called Nick Freeman - 0870 460 7007 who specializes in this type of thing. Request and view the photographic evidence and make sure that there are no blurs on the image. Also you can ask for a calibration certificate for the camera - if they can't produce it - the ticket is void.
The other thing to do is check the dates, if the ticket is issued after 28 days, then you can politely remind them of this and I believe that they have to drop the charges.
Bare in mind that the worst that will happen is 3 points on your license and a £60 fine - you can have 12 points before your license is revoked. The likelyhood is that your insurance premium next year will only have a minor increase for a speeding ticket. But if you can be bothered with the hassle of the above, then try out all of the options, but whatever you do, if you intend to fight it, then seek professional legal advice, and make sure you respond to the ticket by the deadline stated on the ticket.
Next time, don't speed, or just don't get caught!
Good luck. |

Most camera boxes are empty. The ratio used to be one camera to every eight boxes. The flash is sometimes a giveaway. If there is only one flash the box is definitely empty because the camera would take two pictures, hence two flashes. The authorities got wise to this and incorporated a double flash even though there is no camera.
As others have said, if you have been caught it is 3 points and a £60 fine. |

The normal tolerance is 10% + 2mph so the police can exercise discretion up to 35mph. This doesn't mean that they will exercise discretion, you could still get 'done' at 31mph.
In your case you were 33% over the limit. Even the most benign Inspector can't ignore that. Expect a fine and points. |

Yes a £60 fine and 3 points on your licence. |

3 points and a £60 fine. |

Perhaps. It depends if the GATSO had film in it. If nothing arrives after two weeks, you're in the clear. |

If it took a picture then yes. Friends have had cameras flash and nothing has materialised but others have had points and a fine on their licence.
Be careful as some insurance companies won't take you on if you have points on your licence or if they do your premiums go up. |

Of course you will - you broke the law. Probably points and a fine I hope.
30mph limits are there for a reason - eg built up areas, schools nearby.
You're lucky you didn't hit someone and have that forever on your conscience |

I'm afraid so...£60 and 3 points. Didn't you spot a great big yellow thing in front of you?
I always slow down when I pass these (horrid) things then speed up after I'm far enough away. |

depends on where. In ny the cameras catch only plates not driver and only count as parkin tickets. When u get ticket it will tell u. If pic is unclear u may be able to go to court and say somone borrowed car and get it knocked down to fine. My court exp is that they car bout money only and will flex on the pts but u pay court fees. So much for safety spped traps are an industry to make money for politicians wo taxin the rich |

Can you give one good reason why you shouldn't?
Speed limits are there for a reason so why not just accept that they have to be obeyed or it's going to cost you? |
