I was in a small car accident at a yield sign, who is responsible?

I was driving behind a car coming on to the freeway which had a yield to the oncoming traffic. There was one van coming off the freeway with its turn signal on (the exit is be for the on ramp: so, no on-coming traffic) and no other vehicles following that one. So the car in front of me stops and i hit their car. Am I responsible for the accident? Are they? Is it 50-50?
Additional Details
I asked the girl what happen and why she stopped, she replied that she did not see that the car was turning. she had slowed to the yield, then appeared to be going before she stopped (she stopped at the road, not at the yield sign)

You are 100% responsible.
The car in front may have seen something you did not see, or perhaps that driver was more timid than you.
You should always follow at a distance that allows you, if the vehicle in front of you stops, for you also to stop, without crashing into them.
Cars do not always do what seems logical to the rest of us. We have to drive in expectation of the unexpected, and be able to deal with it. |

Unfortunately, anytime your car collides into the rear of a car you are at fault. This is because there is a certain amount of feet that you are required by law to stay away from a car in front of you (to avoid situations like this). Sorry to hear about your wreck and hope everything is ok! Also, it might behoove you to know, that if you get in a wreck and you're car is going in reverse, it's also automatically your fault! Lots of laws like that, I think they're made to save time TBH =) |
