I was reading a driving Manuel and they keep talking about points?

I'm going to apply for my learners in the next month and I was wondering what they were talking about when they said added points.
like the exact thing they said was
"if violation occur, the applicant's 180 waiting period begins again from the date of violation"
how do you get points added to your liscence/permit

you have 6 points when you get your restricted and you get the other 6 when you turn the age you need to be to get your full license in your state. so you should start out with 12 points when you get your full lisence if you haven't gotten a ticket when you have had your restricted.
you don't have any points when you have your permit because you are suposed to have someone in the car over 21 with you to be responisible for you and what you do when you are behind the wheel then.
when you get your full license you start out with 12 points and say you get a "6 point ticket" they take 6 off your points away ...then you have only 6 points....they say you get another 6 point ticket ...then you have no points and your license it revoked by the state till you take a driving class ...or as they call it 4 point reduction class...then you will have 4 of your points back and have your licese back...

When you break the law, and get a fine, you are also assessed points. When you accrue a certain amount to points, you may have to go to a driving school, or lose your license for a specified amount of time.
The number of points you have also effects the amount of insurance you have to pay.
