I think it's an offence if you leave the engine running while the car is unattended. |

nope its only an offence if you leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running |

certainly not on your own driveway, but it is an offence to leave a vehicle running on a public highway. Given the spate of hijacks on cars lately, its also rather foolish. |

It is not an offence and the car is not unattended, as you are there, scraping the ice off.
However, if it gets stolen the insurance will argue that you left the keys in the ignition and won't pay out. |

Yes. It is an offence to leave your car engine running when no one is in charge of the car. |

Not that Ive ever heard of. In Wisconsin where I live I the only offense you can get while your car is running is when you re pumping gas. I think every state is different, u should go to the DMV site of the state that u reside and check it out. |

It's (environmentally, and fuel efficiency wise) better to let it warm up on cold days.
How does this law apply to remote-started vehicles? That would depend on the state you live in.
Yelling at the officer will not make the situation any better. |

No you're doing the safe thing, warming the engine and running the defroster while you clean the windshield for visibility.
If it sounds like a stupid idea idea it is. |

This is from the Gov Web site
The Driver and the Environment. You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road. Generally, if the vehicle is stationary and is likely to remain so for more than a couple of minutes, you should apply the parking brake and switch off the engine to reduce emissions and noise pollution. However it is permissible to leave the engine running if the vehicle is stationary in traffic or for diagnosing faults.
[Law CUR regs 98 & 107]

You ignored the spellchecker. You ignored the fact that you left your CAPS lock on!
Did you ignore the fact that you left your engine running and your car unattended? Isn't that a silly thing to do?
It's not an offence, but why would you do that, and most insurance companies won't pay out if your car is stolen, when the keys are in the ignition! |

I would imagine it would be if someone was driving it too. |
|

And
 |
If it is, then the law is an ***!
If your car is cold, you need to warm it up so you can drive it. |

In the UK yes. It is abandoning and you can be fined for it. Don't know how much. |

No - so long as it's stationary with the handbrake on. |
