To clarify, speeding doesn't kill...it's that sudden stop while you're speeding that does it.

There are "super" cars because people buy them. People like speed. Car manufacturers just give the people what they want/like.

If I'm not mistaken, interstate highways were actually first created for the transportation of goods/services (i.e. 18-wheelers).

Driving on an interstate highway at 60-70 MPH is actually safer than driving on a regular road, with intersections, traffic lights, driveways, stop signs, etc., at lower speeds. What kills is driving too fast for the road. An interstate makes it safe to go somewhat faster than would be safe on other roads, but not infinitely fast.

Super cars are only safe at the speed that other cars go. There is no advantage to them other than being able to drive unsafely. We have them because some of us buy them and the government has chosen not to prohibit them.

Supercars are not made for stupid people.... and most are driven by stupid people.

honestly..have you ever heard of anyone dying from simply going 120mph down the road and not having an accident. in order for you to die from going too fast, there has to be an accident, otherwise look at the space shuttle that landed yesterday. they entered the earths atmosphere at about 8000mph (if im not mistaken)...they would have definately been dead if speed kills.

Speed does not kill. Otherwise those people riding in jet airliners every day would all arrive dead!

If you'd care to notice... We also have speed limits and traffic regulations on those Interstate highways. It is the failure to obey speed limits and traffic regulations that result in fatal accidents.

It's called "Personal Responsibility". Have you noticed that in most of the questions regarding getting a ticket on "Answers" the person is looking for someone else to blame for the incident?

What ever happened to "I got a ticket for speeding and I am guilty of that"..... ?

If you buy a "super car" and drive it in an unsafe manner, you deserve what you get. It's not the state's responsibility to only allow vehicles that will only do the speed limit on the highways. It is up the the individual behind the wheel of that vehicle to operate it in a safe manner.

It doesn't matter if you are driving a moped or a 1000 hp race car... you have to be responsible for your own actions. It also helps if you have the skill required to do so...

NH
speeding does not kill , take for example the autobahn in Germany , no speed limit at all , many drivers doing in excess of 140 mph , not many deaths

Super cars are for super stupid people. It is NOT the speed that kills, it is the sudden stop that will get you every time.

The reason for Super Highways is to provide a REASONABLY safe environment for people to travel at a reasonably safe speed in order to get somewhere. They say that it is not the destination but the journey that is important but apparently the average American motorist has not gotten that memo yet.

There is ALMOST no speed that is absolutely safe. General George S. Patton (WWII General) was killed while traveling at a forward speed of less then 10 miles an hour. He died when he was hurled against the back seat and rear door of the car he was traveling in as a passenger and broke his neck. Died in a hospital of complications from the accident.

10 mph in a stupid situation is no more dangerous then 70 mph in a stupid situation. The key factor in both situation is stupidity. We like to call them accidents but for the most part they are nothing but stupid situations finding each other.

QUOTE: "Speed doesn't kill differential speed kills"

An outstanding point. I could be sitting at a stop sign and be killed by someone blasting through the intersection and losing control.

Speed never hurt anybody. I love Speed. But you have to be very careful with Speed, or else it will introduce you to its friend Fiery Death. You just have to pay attention.
