A trucker was in an accident with a low bridge, 11' 3''. Extensive damage to the trailer. The company that this individual works for let the person go because of it. What is the possibility of this individual getting another job with some other trucking company?

When I teach student drivers, I welcome them into a "three dimensional world". There is no longer just left, right, straight and backward, but now "up" has been added. You have to consciously think about "up" or it will jump down and bite you. Bridges, wires, tree branches, etc are all out there, just waiting to bite you in the head.... If this bridge was 11'3'', they are lucky the trailer was the only thing damaged. They are lucky they didn't lose their head!
Will this person get another job... ? More than likely... there is such a shortage of licensed drivers in this country, someone will hire him, but it won't be the best job, equipment or pay. It will take awhile for him/her to re-prove their abilities and get past the accident. I highly doubt that they will forget to "duck" again.
Best of luck to them... |

If we're talking about the U.S. then he/she is probably not going to have a problem finding another job. Driver's are in demand and most companies will look on this as a learning experience and figure this driver will know better next time. He/she will find a job. |

This type of accident shows extreme negligence, the driver will be eligible for other jobs, but when the companies find out why he is looking for a new job they will probably pass on him. |

no the truck driver should have known the height of his truck |

He is if he can show negligence on the part of the bridge.I had a tree jump out in front of me once. |

Geez. This is why bridges are labeled with height markers. |

Sure, they might put him on payroll and let him sweep the shop and change oil, and do maintenance on the trucks. Will they put him behind the wheel? Not likely.
If he was on a designated truck route, it would not have happened. If he had the map for the route he was on, it shows any potential low bridges. If he knows how to read the sign that shows clearance he would not have tried it. In other words, it shows a lack of common sense on his part, and extreme negligence. |

this was a preventable accident, he should have remembered trailer height. no union company will hire him for quite awhile tho. |

Hello, they are going to report it to his dak report probably as an abandonment on his part. It should be on the dispatchers for not informing him of the low bridges.
If damages were done to that structure they will be calling and it will be on the trucking company.
The driver should always check bridges and tunnels, plus rail road crossings before trucking. Mater of fact the T.A. has map books with all the info for you.
No it will be easier to get another gig. |
