Could be a zone where they want to be quiet, could be little traffic so no need for the siren, could be the patient is injured but in good enough condition they wouldn't need to go faster(no need for the extra alert of the siren). As others said why would they bother with the lights if the patient is dead? They don't really need to hurry if the person is dead, so no need to have lights on. |

No. They sometimes only put the siren for additional warnings when approaching an intersection or heavy traffic. That way it can be less distressful for the patient. |

No patient may not be dead, but sirens could exacerbate the patient's medical condition, such as a heart attack or seizure. The patient as some other have mentioned are in good condition or they are traveling between towns with little traffic. My Dad had to be taken to the hospital on Christmas Day when he couldn't urinate due to enlarged prostate. He waited til the pain was too much, then he couldn't lay down or anything, so the ambulance was called & ran lights, but no sirens while transporting him to the hospital. |

It means they don't want to irritate anyone with the siren. They have a sick person on board and can only reasonably go so fast, they turn on the siren when someone needs to move. |
