If deaf people are allowed to drive...?

then why is it illegal for people to wear earphones (which inhibit hearing) while driving?

I suppose it's because earphones introduce more noise that can distract the driver, while deaf drivers aren't distracted by any noise at all?

But how is a deaf driver supposed to hear sirens in order to be made aware that he may need to pull over to the right to let the emergency vehicles pass? And I'm sure that hearing can play a role in other driving situations too...

Because earphones increase music and increase distractions. The same goes for talking on a phone, eating, or blasting your music in your car as loud as it can go.

Deaf drivers are going to be extra alert to their visual surroundings because they don't have hearing so they know that they won't hear any sirens so it's important for them to be able to spot the vehicles.

You don't need to hear in order to know you need to pull over and when everyone around you is pulling over too you're not going to just think, "Wow! They're letting me through! How nice of them."

Deaf folks are probably paying more attention than the normal driver.

I have an older car that doesn't have an aux in it so I can't hook up my ipod. I listen to my headphones while driving home but I don't turn the volume all the way up so I can clearly hear everything around me. I've never had a problem hearing sirens around me or horns honking or brakes screeching. I understand it isn't the safest thing to do in the world but if done responsibly you can certainly minimize the risk.

im a driver for 4 years since i was 15 1/2

deaf people can drive with or without earphone.

i heard many deaf drivers are more alert than hearing people.
like hearing people is lazy and just hear.
deaf people keep alert and look around for check everything cuz cant hear.

like my hearing mom doesn't notice a police car in hidden place and got caught for ticket.

i notice a police car in hidden place and never get ticket before. but rarely almost be caught cuz im more alert...

i think that's a horrible assumption
it's not because the people blasting music are deaf
it's that since the music is not directly going into the ears other sound waves are able to get by

Imagine sitting in a car with a person talking and blasting music
you can still hear what their saying though you may not catch everything

if you blast headphones you won't hear anything because you are plugging the ear canal and reducing sound waves from anything but your headphones...

the deaf thing is funny, i think you just thought about it a little too much.

A deaf person will be more aware of their surrounding and use their other senses to pay more attention while driving.......
