If im traveling in the opposite direction of the way the speed camara is pointing can i still get flashed?

Additional Details
it flashed as i went past but it could have captured a motor going in the opposite direction to me ( the way the camara is pointing) and it is a fixed camara

they have cameras on both sides of intersection, they take a pic of front and back of vehicle

Van der Elst
The only ones that do that are the TRUVELO cameras, and they are facing you.

Hi Jock
The simply answer im affraid is yes, as this is why they now paint lines on both sides of the road, but note they often cant get you and use this as a deterant. 2 for 1 deal. but to prove a point, by colleague coming from london on the A3 from wandsworth, from where it leaves from bi-directional to 3 lanes dual carriageway.. going south (those who have been through it know) got him doing over 40 in a 30 zone... not his proudest moment, but it proved the point to me and our dept. the cameras faces north, to slow traffic from the 3 lanes to residential 30mph. but most dont have a line of sight so there there for show., but they do need (gatso (grey) fixed cameras, trevello dont for some reason) to have lines to ensure you were speeding, even more so when its bi-directional, to prove who was a little over.
hope this helps a little.... watch out or get a gps speed camera detector, as reports that the radar version could be banned next year.

I would think probably not ,as they also rely on the lines printed on the road to help assess speed .
However usually if there is a camera for one direction , there is quite often one close by for the other so you may get flashed there !!

It completely depends on the type of camera. Some Flash you as you head towards them, some as you drive away. If there are lines on the road and the camera is facing in the other direction to the lines, like alot of these changable direction cameras it cannot detect your speed. Some of the newer fixed direction cameras work for both sides of the road as they have become more advanced.

If it's a conventional Gatso, no. They photograph the car from behind as it's traversing those white lines painted across the road. And it's dangerous to have a flash-using camera pointing into the driver's face.

As a point of interest there's a dual-carriageway near here with lines on both carriageways but only one camera, in the middle. It get turned around from time to time, you can always tell which carriageway it's covering at the time by the way it's facing - if you can see the face with the lens & flash apertures it's aimed at the lines on the other carriageway.

Home Girl
They can get you from directions. Were there any white line markings on the road? This is so they can tell how fast you were going.

no they shouldnt flash in your face because they will blind you and you could course a rta its proberly got the other car

x-lauraa_baybee~x
no because the camera gets the pictures of the cars on the side its on ...thats why they have them on each side of the road

On a fixed one? No

no they cant unless it is handheld

Generally speed cameras should only photograph you from behind. This is because it is dangerous for the driver to be exposed to the bright flash (especially very late at night) head on.

So if you see flashes from the speed camera as you're driving away from it, chances are, you've been nicked.

No, they can get your plate number but they are not set up to ping oncoming traffic.
