If it's not safe why do people drive under the following conditions?

I've been reading some books and dvds on driving and everything about it. It says to never drive when tired, upset, sad, extremely happy or sick, and most importantly don't drive when drunk or buzzed.

People drive all the time when they're tired or sick and troubled. why? It's not safe to do so.

Eagle are you saying it's ok to drive when you're tired or upset even though you're putting yourself and others more at risk?

It's a compromise. Complete safety is impossible. If everyone stays home whenever they are happy, tired, sick, or troubled, then no one gets to work half the time, and the economy collapses (more than it already has) and deaths from starvation become more common than deaths from car accidents are now. The only practical way to eliminate unsafe driving is to make all the cars automatic, so that no one has to drive any of them.

Your right it's not. But as adults we have obligations & responsibilities that don't change regardless of how you feel. Of course it's completely insane to drive drunk.

Driving while tired or upset should be avoided. Sometimes, however, it is mandatory to get from one place to another. For example, someone could become upset or tired at work and still find it necessary to drive in order to get back home because he or she would not be able to sleep all night at the workplace. People are frequently forced to drive under adverse conditions because their work requires it. No one should drive sick or drunk. In either case, where prescription medicines or controlled substances are involved, it may be against the law. No one should report to work sick or drunk.

People have places to go and no one to drive them, at least when referring to a few of these things. Drunk or buzzed I see no excuse for. As to upset it some what depends how upset you are. Notice it does say EXTREMELY happy or sick, that means when you are extremely sick. I don't know of many people who drive when extremely sick, it depends on what you call extremely sick though. Then the tired end, some people just don't realize how tired they are. I'm not saying people should do it. I'm saying that they are going to either way.

if you are so impaired that you dump your coffee in the toaster and put your bread in the microwave to toast, DO NOT DRIVE. impaired driving is the point that the book is trying to make, YOU HAVE TO MAKE THAT JUDGMENT CALL WITH ALL THE INFORMATION IT YOUR DISPOSAL. for example, of you are barfing and dry heaving, that is not a good time to drive. If on the other hand, you have a big zit on your nose, while annoying it is not going to impair your ability to drive safetly.
