If one of your one of your headlights stop working and you happen to get stopped?

by a cop, if you get a ticket, how much is this ticket worth, or is it just a ticket to get you to go fix it and no fines are attached to it. doesnt make sense levying a fine on someone who didnt know one of his headlights failed.

Normally you would just get a fixit ticket and you would have to go to the police station to show that it got taken care of |

It should be part of your pre-drive check and your repair kit!
The ticket is worth a lot - it is a financial reminder to be more vigilant in future and to pull out a spare bulb will generally result in a caution. |

In all cases, it is your responsibility to make sure all of your lights are working at all time. Not knowing something is burned out is never an excuse.
Be prepared to pay the fine, and spend the time to check your lights once a month. |

You know that your head light if not working.. If you continue to drive it that way... Certainly deserve the ticket.....
Some states give a 3 day maintenance warning and some states give you a money fine... . |

It would be a "Fix it" type ticket. All you would need to do it fix it, and have it signed off by an officer. If you don't fix it and your court date comes, then there would be a fine of course. |

Don't know about ALL states, but usually this is what is commonly refered to as a "fixit" ticket. No fine involved unless repairs are not made within a specified length of time.
As far as your logic: EVERY state makes the driver responisble for the safe operating condition of the vehicle. While most people do not bother, each driver should inspect his/her vehicle before taking it out on the road. This includes lights, brakes, coolant, oil, windshield, tires, etc. No responsible aircraft pilot would EVER take off without checking out every part he can lay his hands on. It should not be any different for an automobile driver.
A headling CAN fail after a trip begins, but checking it out can, at least, assure the driver that it was working when he started.
Out of all the "fixit" tickets ever issued, how many parts actually failed just moments before the officer spotted them? |

I have lived in several states and usually you get a warning first...and if they catch you again they you get a fix it ticket or even a fine for not complying. Just go get it fixed...ignorance do not mean innocence |

In most States, when you go to Court, you merely have to show a mechanic's receipt that the part has been repaired or replaced. I would suggest you have it replaced, then bring the receipt with you (and, by the bye, ignorance is NOT an excuse!). Good luck! |

It will probably just be a fix it ticket... you get it fixed, and then find a police office to sign the ticket and send it in... |
