If speed kills whats more dangerous:?

driving at 100mph in a new car along the motorway after drinking a coffee
or
driving at 65 mph in a 15 year old car along the motorway after drinking a pint of larger

both are dangerous and illegal:
the first one because 100mph is over the limit
the second one because drink/drive is illegal
i think the 2nd one is more dangerous in terms of other road users etc. because your reactions are slower. x |

Technically only the 1st one is breaking the law as 1 pint of larger does not put you over the legal limit not that I am supporting drink-driving here. The age of the car is not a factor as a 15 year old car can be perfectly road worthy, however modern vehicles with built in safety features can be linked to more dangerous driving as the driver thinks the car is safer and will save them (even if it only at a subconscious level).
The speed does make a difference at 100mph you have far less time to react to any given situation, and if you were to have a blowout the chances of controlling the vehicle are greatly reduced, and the legal limit is 70mph on the motorway.
The first is the more dangerous but neither are good or clever things to do. |

It makes no difference to how old the car is, if both crashed into the barrier excatly the same way - what would be worse - the 100mph impact. |

First example is more dangerous. Can you imagine the impact on crashing? By the way, both are stupid to do. |

Speed doesn't kill - its the sudden stop that kills.
Similarly, there's no point being afraid of heights, as its the ground that will kill you if you fall. |

The real problem is the beater doing 40 mph in either situation.
Drinking the pint is the problem, not the speed. You could substitute " talking on a cell phone" and not substantially change the outcome. |

If you hit something at 65mph, you'll be no less dead than you'd be if you hit it at 100. Doesn't matter a stuff how sober/drunk you are, or if it's an old Mini or a new S-Class, if you hit something solid above 40-50mph, you're a gonner. So might as well do 150mph & reduce the time you're exposed to danger! |

Its got to be your second choice, drink and driving always brings bad news and as the other answerer said, your reations are going to be a lot more slower. |
