If the maximum uk speed limit is 70mph........?
Find answers to your legal question.

If the maximum uk speed limit is 70mph........?

......why are cars manufactured to be able to go over this limit? There are all these campaigns like "Speed kills" so why are they allowing it to happen? It seems so simple to me.
Additional Details
I really wish I could answer some of these replies. It seems some people don't understand that if the car was limited just in this country it would not affect other countries and It doesn't mean they would have slow excelleration lol :)

Think before you write please.

I can see where you're coming from, but would you honestly buy a car if it's top speed were 70mph? It's likely that a car with only enough power to go 70mph is going to struggle with any heavy luggage, towing caravans etc. A speed limiter could be placed on I suppose, but people would just have them removed.

Think about it like this. when buying a car, many people will not take it to its limit and drive safely. however its always nice to know that if you ever needed to, it could!!!

And cars are not just manufactured for the UK, there are no speed limits on the isle of man, or the autoban in Germany!

It not the car that kills though, It the person driving it.

When they break speed limits, their car is then a weapon.

Just because they want to show the potential...

If some cars did that no one would buy the car xD however if all were made to do it it wold work but people be happy

chippie_minton
In Germany on unrestricted roads you can go at upto 155MPH and cars are generally manufactured for a world market. Whether the UK government should enforce speed limiters on UK cars is a different matter.

Good Q, but then i suppose if you think about it would you buy a car if it was sold as "this car has a top speed of wait for it... 70 mph', i dont think to many drivers would be queing up for it

to get recognised so people will buy there cars. cars aren't only used on the roads, there are tracks where people go and race them and people like to show off...

there are loadsa stuff out there that are cool but pointless and we love it

because there is no law about that and its so you can over take old people and women

Mattfox14
Yes it is 70, but cars are made to go faster as your not all ways going to be on the road are you. People like to race there cars on tracks where its legal to go over 70mph, also if the max speed of a car was only 70 mph it would most likely take ages to get up to that speed, you don't want a car that takes a minuet to get to 60 if you could have 1 that could do it in 5 seconds

this is a very good point!
i think that they should be limited to 70 mph
this would reduce accidents for sure

and as for towing and acceleration it would not affect anything
lorries, busses and motorcycle are limited so why not cars

not all cars manufactured are for sale or use in UK, and not all countries with roads enforce UK speed limits either.
