Grease, being a lubricant, would indeed keep the water off the tires, but the grease between the road and the tires would give it no friction at all, and when you touched the brakes all 4 tires would continue to slide. From a dead stop it would not want to go as the drive tires would slide. Imagine driving with bald tires on sheer ice. That is how greased tires would handle. |

The problem with rain is it causes our tires to lose traction with the ground - oil is going to do the same thing, only worse. |

The problem here is that the grease would not stick only to the tires, it would also get put on the road surface. And grease is used as a lubricant, so actually, putting grease on the tires makes them have less traction. Similar to a tire on ice.
The only thing that can be done right now, in a cost effective manner, is to put grooves in the pavement/asphalt so the water won't lay and puddle (as deep) on the road surface. |

And what is the color of the sky in your world!? You would not be able to stay on the road. You would kill yourself genius. |

that would only work if you were not driving on the ground. Grease makes you slip off of the ground! |

If you think that's such a good answer, why don't you grease your feet the next time you hop in the shower? |

DOOH!
THey don't mix meaning they repel each other. it is like drivin' on ice.
Go ahead and try it, take pictures.......Better yet a video on you tube... |

Holy crap, you're right! Clearly, the problem with driving in the rain is water sticking to the tires. Coating the wheels with a water repellent seems so obvious now. Why didn't I think of that? But wait! What of the environmental impact? We'd need to ensure that tire grease is biodegradable. I don't want to disturb any salmon habitat. Perhaps a vegetable-based lube? |

The reason there are so many accidents when it rains is because the water sits on top of the grease that has been deposited over road. Hitting a patch of water covered grease is like hitting black ice - the next thing you notice is the ceiling of the hospital ward. |

IF THAT IS YOUR THINKING THEN TRY SPRAYING WD40 ON YOUR BRAKE ROTORS....... |

What kind of idea is that, i don't want to sound smug but if you greased up a tire and you hit water on the roadway it would be like hydroplaning constantly, and accidents would shoot through the roof. Thats just not a very good idea at all. |
