If you pass a school bus before the red lights have stopped flashing, you may be cited even though there was no officer present.
TRUE or FALSE

True, a report of your plate number by the bus driver gets you a ticket, as it should.

The answer in some jurisdiction is 'true';

Some courts will take the sworn affidavit of a school bus driver who witnesses such a violation.

Some school districts are experimenting with cameras facing forward from the rear left side of the roof of the bus to take photos of vehicles passing sensors that are activated when the lights are flashing and the stop signs have been deployed.

This is probably the one violation in Ohio that officers can cite you for without seeing the incident take place. If the bus driver gets your tag, they can provide a written statement that you passed their bus illegally, and you will be given a ticket. They would normally have to testify in court, but it rarely goes that far.

Just be glad you didn't get attacked by an angry parent. You've heard stories about mother grizzlies protecting their cubs, and tearing people's scalps off their heads, and leaving them for dead, right? It's pretty much the same thing...

Anybody witnessing this may report it to the police. The bus driver may also report you.

Yes you can. If fact, in some states, the school bus driver can report you, and, if he can pass on your license plate number, you can expect a regular traffic citation in the mail.

And the fines are PLENTY big!

TRUE.... The bus driver is told, if ANYONE passes the bus, before the lights stop flashing, to take down the license information, and contact the police immediately..

Not only will you be cited with a ticket, you'll have to live with your self for the rest of your life, knowing you killed a kid (potentially)...

Just don't do it...

If a witness swears out a statement, you can be cited.
(The witness might be easier to challenge in court than an officer,
but don't count on it.)

The flashing lights on the buses are designed to warn motorists that children are in the area and the law states that you're supposed to stop completely. This is to prevent an innocent child from serious injury and death.
