yes you do put oil in it. There should be a plug on it in the middle. You open it there put your finger inside and check if it has oil. Fill with oil if needed. |

That is the ball hitch. It is for towing trailers. (The small ball thing)
You may be asking about the differential however. It has a pole that goes from the "ball" to the tires?
That is what houses the ring and pinion gears that transfers the energy from the engine/transmission/driveshaft to the rear wheels to make it move. These gears are connected to a "Carrier" that the axels go into. The axels then go down the tubes and out the ends. Here the breaking mechinism is attachend (older trucks have drum breaks newer have disc)and the lug bolts are found. The wheel/tire is held onto the breaking mechinism/axel assembly with lugnuts. |
