So today was my birthday, went and got my permit, and Im fine at driving, infact I love it, just a significant part of my driving skills is off. Turning. Acceleration is fine, and braking is fine( at stop lights and such, but not while turning). I feel I need to brake alot sooner than I am, because much force is directed toward the left when making a right turn for example.The main reason why I dont want to slow down too soon is because i fear either coming to a stop before the turn on accident, and/or getting into a rear end accident because Im going too slow on a 55mph road. help?

it's just a matter of approaching the turn slowly, but not too slowly. I tend to turn at around 30km/h and then once your facing the right way into the street, it is important to accellerate back up the speed limit again. |

OK, take it easy.
Don't worry about the car behind you when you slow down for a turn. Just make sure to use your turn signal in plenty of time for him to know what you are going to do.
And just touch your brake pedel enough to make the brake lights come on so he can see them a second or two before you actually start braking. That will give the car behind you a little more reaction time.
(You can test the amount you need to push to make the brake lights come on by parking in the dark with the car's back end towards a wall or a garage door, and watching in the mirror as you push the brake to see when the lights reflect off the wall.)
It is easier and safer, to speed up if you see that you are going too slow before a turn than it is to brake hard if you realize that you are going too fast into a turn.

thats one of the reasons you have a suspension system. the car leans to one side because weight is tranfsering in the car. its not going to flip or anything. if youre driving a passenger car and not an suv or truck, you should be able to take a right turn at like 10 mph safely. and you can always take it easier on the brakes too. just relax a little behind the wheel. youll get used to it |
