Don't be scared, be cautious.
Ways to improve your safety......
1. If at crosswalk, make eye contact with the drivers near you.
2. Cross at crosswalks/corners whenever possible
3. Be sure to look both ways, again, and once more wouldn't hurt.
4. At night or low-light conditions, carry a flashlight
5. Until you are sure the drivers see you, stay on the curb |

Just follow the chicken. J/K. First, figure out why you're scared to cross the road, then ask yourself how likely this reason is to actually occur, and work on crossing one step at a time. |

I have to cross a busy road every day to get my mail. Just be very careful. Look to the left then the right and to the left again and be quick about it. Always think safe. :) |

I know how you feel.
In NYC, there are many dangerous intersection.
If at traffic-control intersection:
1. Wait for WALK/PEOPLE WALKING SIGN.
2. When it flash, don't step into sidewalk.
3. When it DON'T WALK/HAND INDICATING STOP, WAIT.
4. If it flash green or walk/people, it's okay to cross, but watch both ways, even if streets are one way street.
5. If you hear the siren, wait until siren pass away from you.
If at stop sign controlled.
Look both ways and make sure no cars are coming.
If there was no cars, it's safe to cross.
Same reason for railroad or lightrail crossing. |

You have good reason to be. I almost got creamed by an impatient SUV driver this morning crossing in a crosswalk when the walk sign lit up.
Just remember look all ways left, right, front and back and don't cross until the walk sign lights up and remember not all drivers are patient and will risk running you over just to get somewhere that much quicker. |
