Is 35mph too fast for this narrow road? We have a road just north of town that is about 1.5 miles long and it is very narrow and there are houses and yards that are just on the side of the street and there are also 3 stop signs along the way, there are similar roads in our area that are 25mph yet they are wider, the road I'm talking about is located just outside the city limits.

Road speed maximums and minimums are set by the DOT. The speeds are determined by the type of structures along the roadway. Homes, stores, schools, hospitals, factories etc. The yellow with black lettered signs at curves, and other potentially hazardous sections of roadway are suggested speeds. If you feel the speed limit is incorrect on the stretch of road you are refering to, you can contact the DOT and they will take a look at it. |

35 mph seems right for what you have described. The onus is always put upon the car driver to moderate speed but it is also the pedestrians and vehicle drivers coming out onto a road to take full precautions. Why does asweg E keep adding this web site to questions, it is an advertisment site. |

No, the width of a road doesn't not determine it's safety. If it's straight you will see the oncoming traffic and slow down enough to pass each other.
