You go right ahead and take as many lesson as you need. You will be a better driver than those hotshots who think they can drive but cut people off and cause accidents and road rage.

Not too old, but will take longer than a young person. Get an experienced instructor, one you trust, and go for it. I've seen lots of pupils older than you, pass, so take heart!

Joan - 48 is not old! Get out there and do it. Think of all the freedom you will have - no more standing around on bus stops or relying on people for lifts. The problem is you lose confidence when you get past 40 (I know - I am only afew years behind you!) but come on, you've got years in you yet!! Good luck.

Of course you should keep trying

Mr Blues
Yes keep trying, just remember that you control the car and not the other way round, it'll only do what you want it to do !!.

Good Luck :-)

48 years old is definitelynot too old to drive. To the contrary, at around 40 to 50 years old, people gain a great sense of responsibility. Keep in mind that you still need to practice for your eventual driving exam. From my personal exerience, if you drive carefully, no matter how slow you are, the evaluator can even give you additional points during the exam. Be sure to have your vehicule inspected before your exam for safety measures. Good luck and have fun driving!

you are never to old have another go i admire you for trying

l your age is only a number, you are as old as you feel, but when you start to tell yourself that you are too old, I believe you are giving up on life. YES you may find it harder to grasp the concepts and have difficulty coping with the mi lion and one scenarios that might present themselves to you, but have a look at some of the people who are driving, they aren't any smarter or better than you, certainly if they can do it, YOU can!
I think the deciding factor here is do you really WANT to drive, if yes, then give it all you have to learn to be a good driver. If no, there is no shame in that, if this is the case your age carries with it the maturity to recognize this and you just go do something else.

Good Luck!!!

No way. Keep going.

Provided you're physically capable with good eyesight ( & let's face it, 48 isn't exactly ancient! ) why not?
I used to be a driving instructor & had quite a few clients older than you. It may take a bit longer than a 17-year old who has spent all their life hoovering up new information & skills, but trust me, you CAN do it!!

Did someone say that you should quit because the last thing we need is nervous drivers on the road? Then for God's sakes don't give licenses out to teenagers! Increase the driving age to 30! How ridiculous. Most people are nervous when they start learning to drive.

Here is what I'd suggest. 1. Make sure your eyesight is excellent whether it means you have to use glasses or contacts to drive and don't drive without them. I got my license at 16 and then at 19 found out that I needed glasses. I should have never been behind a wheel but no one ever tested my sight!
2. Do you have any physical disability that might slow your reaction time? If the answer is no, there is no need to worry there either.
3. Do you live in a small town or big city? If a small town, stick to the least busy areas and practise, practise, practise. If you live in a city, go to a reputable driving school and keep working at it. When my husband was in university he was a certified driving instructor and taught all ages. Some people took only weeks to learn and pass. Others took months. Age didn't matter when it came to time needed.

The main thing is, do not go out on your own until you are ready. The school my husband taught for was very strict on this and they would not pass a driver unless they'd met this condition.

Driving in the city can be nerve wracking for the most experienced drivers. Take your time and don't give up! ((-:

If you want to learn then GO FOR IT!!!

A very dear friend took her bike test at 75 and passed, so there is no reason on this earth why you shouldn't at least give it a go.

Best of luck

If your eyesight, reactions and hearing are ok there is no reason why not.

At least the chances are you will be sensible and responsible in a vehicle, not like a lot of the young idiots who think they own the roads and cause problems and misery for everyone else.

Best of luck with it.

if you've managed without up to now why bother? 48 isn't too old to learn to drive but if it's a buzz you are after go for a motorbike instead.

No No No you`re far too old, you`ll kill someone, how would you like to be run over by someone who is only on the road as a result of a yahoo poll, get the bus and forget all about this driving nonsense and help to keep death off the road.
