There is no offence. However it could be annoying for the driver if he/she is alone as a police officer may stop the car to check. |

Yes it is.
The driver will be fined A$60. However, accredited driver trainers and rider trainers may continue to display L-plates on their vehicle after they have finished giving driver training. |

i would think so, because the L should only be displayed when u r learning to drive! |

Yeah, but you won't get stopped unless you're on your own. Police would just assume you're the learner if there was someone in there with you! And other cars will try to overtake you, regardless whether you're keeping up with the limit |

Technically, yes it is against the law to display L plates when the driver is qualified, the exception being if they're on a DSA approved instructors car travelling between lessons. That's why the major driving schools, BSM, AA, have removable plates.
It's also against the law to have them placed in the windows, that doesn't seem to put a lot of people off though. |

I know it is in Australia because my boyfriend got a couple of fines for this because he was on his full license at the time as we had left the back L plate on by mistake. I don't know why this is i can't see why it should be an issue but the police certainly thought it was. |

Simple answer it is illegal for a person who is not a learner to dive around with L plates on the car, if you have just passed your test you may get green plates but i would personally advise that you didn't because other drivers will always try to take advantage of them if you end up in an accident because people get angry and stressed in accidents especially when it involves loosing their no claims. I am also from the UK i was told this by my driving instructor who had a passion for law. |

From memory (dim and distant) L plates should only be on the car when the learner is driving. |

No its not illegal, if it were the driving instructor cars would be committing an offence after the learner got out. |

No, of course not. The law says that learners must have "L" plates. Whatever way you read it, you can't possibly construe from that that it's illegal to have them if you're not a learner!
Still laughing! |

** UK ANSWER **
As far as i know, it is not illegal to leave them on (If it was driving instructors couldn't have those signs), but it is illegal to drive on the motorway with them on, and you stand a very large risk of the Police pulling you over if they see "L" plates with only one person in the car..
I'd also say it's just courtesy to remove them as drivers behind will behave differently! (Even though they shouldn't!) |

Oh its fine!!! Its also ok to have no plates on your car,Just take them off all together... as long as there is no learner in it. Dont worry. |
