My friend is giving me an early 1960's Volkswagen beetle. It needs some work, but its free. However, my mom wont let me drive it unless it's has airbags. So, i guess i'm just asking if it's possible to put them in so i can drive the car.

Your screwed, Vw beetles are made so cheap and worthless that there is no chance in putting a set in, just tape airfilled ziploc bags in there (airbags)lol |

Yes and no.
It is possible if you are willing to spend a lot of money.
The problem is the air bags are not isolated. They need a range of sensors in order to inflate if there is an impact. These have to be made to a high standard and I am guessing they are different for each model of car.
Getting airbags in an old car will be tough and expensive. It will be a customer job and since the vast majorities of garages would not be equipped to install airbags (they might be able to replace them but not install them) then it will be difficult to find anywhere that would.
I may be wrong and it may be simpler than I think. The big problem will be insurance. Every new car has to go through a range of safety checks. If an airbag goes off at the wrong time it can cause an accident so they may be dubious about insuring it. Also, if the installer gets it wrong they are open to be sued.
I think you will either have to forget this, or try contacting Volkswagon directly as they might be able to better advise. |

i;m not sure you can do that.because your car is very old and if you want to install air bang need to many things like as sensor ;a place for put air bang in your room car and redisingand many thing...
and if it possible i think is not reasonable to do that.

Yes it is possible but the cost for something like this will be between $3500.00 to $5000.00 dollars plus the shop that will do this will have a very large liability issue should anything fail..... |

i think you should look away from airbags and look into racing seats (5 point seat belt), they are very cheap and imo alot safer than airbags(since some increase the chance of death). if you want one of these racing seats u shud check em out at momousa.com |
