Is it Safer to drive with or without Music/Radio playing?

The Mr. Pine
It doesn't matter to me. Driving a truck I often don't pay attention. This is why weather and emergency alerts are repeated very often. Its hard to catch the entire story the first time. I turn it down when in heavy traffic and when exiting the highway so I can hear what is around me.

Depends on your definition of listening to music.
Some ppl have it cranked so loud, they wouldn't hear the Space Shuttle taking off behind them. They wouldn't hear an emergency vehicle either, so that's an unsafe situation.
As with everything, moderation is the key.
Listen to music, but not loud enough to distract you.

Yes, but if you really want something to listen to, listen to something calming, like classical or jazz music

It is definitely more safe to drive without music or radio playing. I love to listen to music LOUD when I drive my car, but I don't anymore. Cruising around with Metallica blasting inside my car in my early 20's. I noticed other drivers driving strangely, pulling slightly to one side or other. I never heard the fire truck siren as it approached the intersection. I kept driving, although slower, and nearly T-boned a fire truck! Now I listen to music at a level that still allows me to clearly hear emergency vehicles a way off and also other audible cues that could save your life and the lives of others. Also, no matter the weather, I drive with my driver's window open about an inch. Good question! Be safe out there.

As long as the radio is at a resonable volume, it is safer to listen to the radio while driving. Resonable volume is where you can hear your engine, the road, & be able to hear horns/sirens. It can keep your mind engaged which helps with alertness. Listen to music or programs that keep your interest. Too calming can put you to sleep, but violent music can make you too agitated. It is a balancing act.

Depends are you changing the station or cd like every 10 min. In that case without. Also depends on your expierence if you are just starting to drive I would say without.

Radio playing is not a distraction. Headphones , or radio blasting so the pavement shakes means you cannot hear sirens, or other sounds that could affect the safety of your driving. As long as you stay alert to what is going on around you.

Hey Ali, my name is Ali to. Your question really depends on you, if you find it normal driving while the radio is on, and at the same time able to focus on your driving then that is called Divided attention, meaning you can be doing more then 1 thing at a time while mainly focusing on 1 particular thing, in this case it should be your driving. Otherwise if you think it is not safe then you can only pay attention to one thing at a time while undertaking difficult tasks which is called Selective attention. To answer your question, music playing while driving may be unsafe for some people but safe for more than the majority of drivers out there.

hello Ali,
You can have you radio on while you driver but
keep in mind.
don't have it too loud
don't change the cd or station of radio
while driving this can be dangerous
while you are driving you need to pay attention
what you are doing some car accidents occur because
not paying attention.

If you are learning to drive
its best not to have a radio on
this is because it can be destracting
and destractions can cause accidents
