a cop came by my house and told me it is against the law to have my car remote started in the morning to warm it up and i must be in the car not inside my house

Never heard of such a thing. I don't think I would of been very polite to the officer. I have remote start and you should see all the cars running at grocery stores in the winter around here in Missouri. on remote start.... |

if its in your driveway hes misinformed, its your property 100% so you can do it for sure (not that you can do anything) but remote starting your car, there is no traffic/safety or any type of law against this, tell him next time to prove it ( show you something on paper or w/e) and then maybe youll confide to his wishes. If its in street it may be different story, but in your driveway pshhhhh ida told him to leave and on the way out, check out my exhaust note comin from my monster american v8 ;) |

That is absurd!!! If that were the case, then it would be illegal for them to be made or sold in the us. Tell the cop to write you a ticket next time and take it up with the judge. You spent to much money on the system for some cop on a power trip to start harassing you. |

I do not believe it is illegal to do that, granted you have an approved remote starter fitted to your vehicle - whether it is automatic or manual (standard).
Check with your local DMV/BMV. |

check with your local laws to be sure..you might be able to look them up online..some municipalities have some weird laws..due to thefts and such ... you would be held accountable if it was stolen and maybe fined? |

Yes it is against the law in many states, if you start your car-leave it with keys in the ignition and go back into home...this is a ticket. The police are trying to prevent dumb accidents, kids left in backseat, and your investment. What if.... if someone kills someone with a vehicle... if you allowed them to get in your started car, keys in ignition.... you are responsible as well. But, I am unsure of the remote starts, because they do have an automated kill engine without leaving the key in the vehicle. |
