It is illegal to ride in any type of trailer on public roads.
If you would like links for your area, it would help if you said where you live. I do believe that every state has the same law, just worded differently. Travel trailers come under "any type of house trailer".
Our law: "265:97 Riding in Trailers. â€“ No person or persons shall occupy any type of house trailer or automobile utility trailer as defined by RSA 259:5, while it is being moved upon a way."
And: "259:5 Automobile Utility Trailer. â€“ ""Automobile utility trailer'' shall mean any trailer suitable for towing by a passenger automobile or pick-up truck, and which is being towed by such vehicle for the purpose of hauling personal property intrastate or interstate; excepting such trailers when hauling livestock."

You mean like 1 person with a legally registered vehicle, and the other person in a vehicle that Doesn't have tags or expired tags or expired insurance?

Yep, it's illegal all right.

If you live in a small town, it's not going to be a problem.

If you gotta drive more than 15 minutes....get it towed, or tow it behind you!
