you are only allowed to show white or yellow lights at the front and red lights at the back. the only exceptions are reverse lights and indicators

I would assume so.

I live in the UK and here the law is very strict about what you can have on your car. They even go so far as to have two different colours for the number plates. The front one is white, but the back one is yellow( the reason for this is because the back numberplate is reflective and thus classed as light source and therefore it cannot be the same colour as the reverse lights). They have also banned undercar lighting (which is no bad thing as it screamed boy racer).

I would imagine that here at least, blue side lights would be banned.

The Tank

The motor vehicle construction and use regulations state that blue is a reserved colour for emergency services only, doctors on call can use a green roof light.

Vehicle driving and parking lights (head and side lights) must be white or amber. Tail lights must be red.
There is no option or "get out clause". If you are stopped for any reason then you can expect to get "done" for illegal lighting. This will certainly mean a fine and probably points on your licence.

Take out the blue lights now. They won't impress anybody except the dimwits and will cause you trouble sooner or later.

Yes.

Side marker lights must be amber unless they are at the rear of the car in which case they may be amber or red.
"At the rear of the car" generally means behind the rear wheels, not on the rear half of the car.

In the UK blue lights are for the emergency services only (police, fire, ambulance and coastguard). The police take a very dim view of this law being flouted, take them off before you are caught.
Bling up your car by all means but keep it legal and have more fun.

Blue lights for washer jets and a few other crap looking things is also legal, as long as they are not flashing! You cannot show red lights to the front at all.

The upshot is that the obligatory lights (driving lights, position lamps, indicators, whatever) should comply with the regs.

I would disagree with Theatreman. The majority of blue lights on cars get away with it and just draw attention to the car... and often other offences! The cars with blue lights as headlights or side lights are definitely an offence and will often be worhty of a ticket and so worth a stop. Â£30 fixed penalty or a Vehicle Defect Rectification (14 day notice to fix it).

Yes it is illegal, but I shouldn't worry. If the police can even be bothered to pull you over for it, you will only get a warning, or at worst a small fine.
So long as they are not flashing blue, I don't think they will bother.

If you are worried, phone the local cop shop and ask them if it is illegal, and what are the penalties.
